About After illness and dreadful weather I had chance to get my scope out for the first time this year. I wanted to try and improve on my earlier posting of this star cluster. This time I shot in RAW format to give me more control over the post processing. I also wanted to improve on the tracking to reduce star trails. This is a 2min exposure through an 8inch SNT at f4.

nice and crisp for 2 mins Nidge.

I've just started gniog RAW full time now, realised that for browsing purposes that you can extract the JPG into the folder so you don't ahve the huge wait for the RAW to render.

The quality difference is amazing.

Thank you Nicole. I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to post processing so don't be surprised if I pop up asking for tips with Photoshop.
Regards

Nidge.

Yes James it was through the same light pollution. It didn't help with the subject being above a house roof and the image distorting due to the rising heat. The trick is to take many images in the hope of getting one back.

Thank you Khaled. The next step will be to increase the exposure time by combining many images.

You have captured this one superbly, was this through the same light pollution? If so, excellent.

Wow - I've seen this star cluster many times but not like this, even with binoculars; too much light pollution in the smoke!
