Hi Dave, this is gorgeous. I love how we can take something so 'everyday' and use the macro to show the beauty of the object. I'm new to digital too, well to photography really. Thank you for your comments. Kiny

Hi Mark, sorry it took so long to get back to you, thanks for your comment! I caught some snow on a piece of black paper, and isolated a flake near the edge. I had it set up in the door of my garage so I had some light but was out of the wind. I used the closeup lenses with the camera lens fully zoomed out (370) and on manual focus. I fine tuned the focus by adjusting the tripod height. I tried to have the camera as close as possible to a right angle directly above the snow flake, as the DOF, even at f9 was so shallow, that the edges are slightly out of focus if the lens is at an angle. The image was converted to grey scale, contrast boosted and sharpened in post processing, and then cropped to achieve a good image size. It's not as sharp as I would have liked, but with the huge magnification I think I was working to the limits of my equipment. The original snowflake was about 2mm in diameter! Hope this helps. Dave.

That is one weird snowflake - mostly thick crystals. I'm used to the light and thin kind down here. Nice job.
