About This South African Beauty was surprised by the first snow in our Garden in Germany. Somehow it looked miserable and shivering to me. I also wanted to show the contrast of the overbearing white and the few coloured spots in that scene. But I am not sure of this pic at all. I am completeley new to snow photos even though I am often fascinated by those of others. What do you think? Honest scrutiny welcome.

Thank you for your excellent comments, Jorg.

This is a beautiful image. The diagonal lines of the flower, the perfectly exposed snow, the subtle colors of the petals - it feels like the flower is holding the snow - feeling its texture.

The DOF and exposure are superb. The white background near the top-left of the image seems to compete for attention with the flower - how about burning it a bit? Overall, this is a beautiful image. I specially like the way you've captured the texture of the snow.

Jorg, though this image literally pales in comparison to the more colourful ones in your snow series, it is a very good image too.

Excellent, I like it, you have captured the lovely ice crystals and sparkle, without it being blown out, and the bits of flower sticking out are nice and sharp, good DOF so background doesn't detract from the snow on the flower

Me again,

In looking at the thumbnails together, I have changed my mind, (that happens!!)
I like THIS one the best of the three. I like the composition better, and the overall subtleness or light and darks, almost monotone.

Lori ;)

I like this one a lot Jorg. In order of my preference; first the pink rose, then this one, then the yellow rose.

And really it is just personal preference. But this one really does appeal to me quite a bit. I like the composition and the subtle colors.

And I like the blurred darker areas in the background, adds a lot of depth and interest.

VERY NICE,
Lori ;)

Oh dear, the snow has won this battle. How sad. Good captures.

Thanks for your comment Gustav. I did those shots a couple of weeks ago and I was surprised myself, when I opened it today that the EXif told me I did it on Iso 800. I agree with your statement on ISO 100. Regards Jorg

Hello Jörg,
very nice winter macro image well composed with really good winter (snow) colors. My question is: why did you set your camera to ISO 800 ? ISO 100 IMO would have been much better as there is plenty of light with the snow around. At ISO 800 you also have noise... and not such fine details as with ISO 100 or even ISO 200. Anyway I like the way you have framed and presented this image.
By the way, thank you very much your much appreciated comment on my cyclamen image. I agree with you about the overdone framing...
I am sure you are not the only one who is of the same opinion...
Keep well and have a wonderful sunday.

An overall excellent image. The snow has been rendered perfectly without colour cast and DOF has seperated the main subject from the background.
Well done.

I think you managed this very well the detail in the most foreground part of the snow is excellent...no over exposure but just about perfect...composition and presentation are both excellent

It's a beautiful snow shot, Jorg! You caught it at just the right time, when the snow was fresh and hadn't settled. I like the contrast between the colours of the plant and the snow. Very good focus and DOF.
Dave.
