i disagree - - i think the parents makes the shot "not-so-typical" ... you can alway find a kid skippin on the beach but the parents are often on the sidelines talking and not paying attention. Glad to see them there. Very endearing..

I am usually not a stickler on making sure the horizon is straight, but in this case I think it would be better.
With that little nit pic out of the way...I love the interaction here...and after reading Peter's note, I now "get" the next shot! :)

Not to bust your chops, but I think the kid alone, bigger would have been more appealing. The parent part seems a bit distracting.

Great idea and nice colors, the only I would make would be to correct tne horizon line.
