I lived 30 years in England and never saw one of these. Through your beautiful photo I can now admire its astonishing beauty. The Master was clearly at work in this creature. I bow in praise.

Hi Chris; you're right! -- this is a beauty. Colors and sharpness are outstanding and it almost looks as if the leaf the butterfly is on is an extension of the butterfly. It seems awfully early for butterflies to be out-- at least for here, and maybe the cool temps. kept this one still?? Anyway, a beautiful take. Cheers. Craig

Hi Chris. Upon closer examination, I do see that it IS a leaf, not the wing, that is cut off. My mistake. With that fat body, it looked more like a moth to me. I used to collect butterflies and moths as a kid. Regardless, it is very beautiful. Regards, Lou

Hi keith, Nice point about the holly leaf being "too prominent" but, for once, I wanted to post a picture that was more-or-less straight out of the camera. Apart from a little adjustment to the saturation, that's how it is with this one! Kind regards, Chris

Hi Lou, Thanks for the comment, but? a. It's not a 'moth', it's a butterfly, and? b. It's not "cut off at the left" ~ that's the leaf it's resting on! Kind regards, Chris

Its not cut off at the left, whats is cut off is the leaf I think. Good work here. My only concern is that the holly leaf on which the butterfly is sitting is too prominent. It need to be darker and recede into the background a little. That would really make the butterfly stand out.
Good wok all the same.

ps - yes the drive from Sheffield to Manchester and back is a wonerful opportunity, however I can tell you that it is sometimes possible to get too much of a good thing ;-) But then driving anywhere these days is getting to be hard work.

Great shot, Chris. Lovely colors. I wish the moth weren't cut off at the left, but that's minor. Nice work. Lou
