Hugo that rubber band is not holding an ink bottle it supports the wires to the tattoo gun I think ,there are little clips that he puts on and takes off when changing tattoo guns.
His assistant's guns were set up the same way I think it's just an artist trick to make things work better

I can only agree with what everyone already wrote, this is great, interesting and excellent quality! But also... ouch! ;-) Not that I know... I don't have tatoos, but it LOOKS "ouch"!
I have a workmate who has lts of tatoos on his arms, and I thought I might take some kind of photo of that one day, but I just can't figure out how I could/should compose it. Just photo of tatoos on arms would probably be boring, it has to have something else too. Like this photo has so much more than "just" a tatoo.

Hi Dan, Fabulous shot, very original, and very well balanced. Your wife is a natural photographer. Fenomenal lighting, and a very good subdued setting. Looks kind of like an obscure tatooshop, though, with the bottle of ink held in place by a rubber band.... Looking at your pose, you don't seem quite relaxed, suppressing the pain, eh?

Dan, I think kym summed it up better than I ever could. This is a very strong image, priceless and permanent. Technically I think it?s perfect as far ad lighting, exposure etc. but it really speaks to people, I think.

Ah, this is different. And refreshing. I like the choice of the shorter lens, forcing your wife to get in really close and tight to your tattooist, there is an immediate sense of intimacy.
The light is what really pushes this image above par, it's really gorgeous. And that solitary light encompassing the two figures while dropping off to shadows in the surrounding areas really enhances that sense of intimacy.
Were I you, I'd consider working on a series along this vein. I'd take this image and show it to your tattooist (and other tattooists) and ask if they'd be willing to let you document their work. Seriously, I think this is an avenue worthy of consideration, this image is so strong.
