Vorupor is an idyllic small fishing hamlet with approx. 800 inhabitants and from here coastal fishing has taken place for centuries. The surrounding nature offers both woods with a large number of a.o.red deer and roe deer, extended dune plantations where you may collect various berries from which you can fabricate your own bitter dram, plus there are small lakes with a rich bird life and of course there is one of the best bathing beaches of the West coast.
Today 8 cutters and about 12 small fishing boats are fishing inshore from the beach landing site.
The fresh fish are brought ashore every day weather permits and may be bought from the fishing shop owned by the Fishing Company or directly from the boats on the beach. The landing place is protected by a large pier which was inaugurated in 1908 and has since been repaired many times when the storms, the rough sea and the currents have moved everything about.
From the 350 meter long pier which points north-west the tourists may catch their own fish, admire the sunset or see the cutters landing and being hauled onto the beach by the huge winch. In the Fishing Company?s building the tourists may watch the sorting and packing of the landed fish before they are sent onto the auction at Hanstholm.
The landing site has also close by a Life Saving Station with 2 salvage vessels and often it is possible to see these in action, during rehearsal and every year during the annual beach party they can be watched to go out to sea while the tourists and visitors on shore enjoy eating all kinds of fish meals served by the fishermen?s wives.
In case you should be interested in going out on a cutter for angling, this is possible during summer on one of the cutters which sails to the Yellow Reef with anglers. This means lots of fish and fresh air - and for some even some seasickness.
Before daring to become a real angling tourist or just a tourist, you may pay a visit to the Vorupor Natural Sea Museum and Aquarium to see what is waiting for you. You may also pay a visit to te Tourist Office which is always ready to help our guests.
In case you feel more like having a cultural experience Vorupor can offer, from summer 2000, a chance to meet the coastal culture and the inshore fishing traditions through 100 years in the new museum which is built in the old boatbuilder?s yard and you may also study the exciting story about the chapel and the old church from 1902 with the amazing spire.
At Vorupor you will find an unspoiled environment and a unique nature, several well-assorted stores, boutiques plus restaurants which offer great culinary treats.
