Technically, the exposure on this image was well handled. You've maintained excellent detail all over the lighthouse but from a compositional standpoint, I have to agree with Julien, it would benefit from a little more creative photographer input.
The subject is nice. But the problem with nice subjects is that they are not expressed in a photo by just putting them on film. There needs to be something, intruiging, creative to get the eyes attention. The trick is to find an angle, or some technique to express this beauty in your photo.
Here I dont see much photographer input... and the composition just doesnt do any justice to the subject. Its completely in the center. The use of DOF with the background sharp doesnt really add anything to the photo either... it seems you know what you like, and you know what you want to photograph. I guess you're already halfway then. Now try to find a way to make it interesting to look at and you're there :-)
