About Frequently, I take pictures of my wife?s (Phyllis Moore's) fiber work. Yesterday, I was experimenting with a new technique to achieve color accuracy. I was testing the use of a white paper napkin vs a piece of white cotton selvage. (The selvage won.) While I was more interested in the color accuracy, Phyllis was excited about the more or less randomness of the composition, and suggested that I post it to see what you thought.

The two pieces of work on either side of the napkin and selvage are part of a series that she is doing for an independent study assignment at the university that involve poetry and fiber surface design. These are part of five fiber pieces of a series called ?The Bone Cloth.?

The pieces are constructed of hand-painted Kona cotton, the roses are from commercial linen and the three black and white checkerboard are commercial cotton fabric. The checkerboard boarder on the piece on the left is a sun print on hand-painted Kona cotton.

The red/white polka dot hexagons (and orange striped hexagon) are some pieces of old flannel pajamas that will be worked into a new piece at some future time.

The color correction technique is described in the current (Jan./Feb.) issue of Photoshop User in an article by Taz Tally.

I had missed this one and your wife was right to be excited about this composition. It is really fantastic. I love it!
Very colourful and original abstract.
Your wife is very creative and a great artist. I had seen a foto of one of her quilts before (the one with the houses in rows) and now part of these two with the roses. Come to think that the possibilities are really uncountable if one has a creative mind like Phyllis. Very interesting work she has! Those current projects as shown in the thumbnail are really super. It would be great to see more of her work
This abstract of yours should be a winner!!!!!

Harlan, you have such an outstanding eye for detail. For the one small thing that is out of the ordinary in an otherwise ordinary world. Here is a perfect example. Bravo.

As always I love to see a combination of your photos and your wife's works. This definately appears to be another strong composition of the two. As I look at this one I am not sure what captures my attention first. Seems the roses and polka dots grab ya but then the straight pin makes you stop and look even more as it just seems so out of place. This definately makes you stop and look so I must say it is a wonderful combination yet again of your works.

Very interesting composition of fabrics with nice colours. Because of some objects (like needles) it looks like patron, a map work a cloth. Very nice and original.

This is the design wall of current projects. The Bone Cloth series are the five pieces above the group of flannel hexagons. The narrow horizontal piece belongs on the end in a vertical position, but there wasn?t enough room on the design board.

The lower piece on the left, below the flannel hexagons, is the original Bone Cloth piece that is no longer part of the series. The other piece is a miniature quilt in the style of four commission bed quilts that were made from 60 - 70 year old quilt blocks.
