About This large female swallowtail was being persued by two smaller males. This image shows one of the males, obviously out-of-focus, hoovering next to the female waiting his chance to mate. I thought the out-of-focus male added a different feel to the composition.

The soft-focus male does influence the feel. I wonder how the other way around (in terms of focus) would have looked. The phrase "great capture" is incessantly overused here, but in this case with butterflies in flight, that's exactly what it is.

Spectacular. The composition of elements right down to the tiny curl of the antenea is exquisite. The colors are rich, but not over saturated. I am hard pressed to say which of the two swallowtails is more compelling, but the softness of the hovering male lends a mysterious quality to him. I don't know how long you waited or how many images you took to get this, but the effort was worth it.
