This is the soil profile when a new ditch was made. One sees the upper soil ( very dark from last 5 centuries ), the post-iceage soil ( grey color )under it and then sand, only sand. So I assume we had a desert here in the old days, Paul ?
You are right about the image being off-focus. During processing I noticed the original capture was blurred due to movement. Still it is interesting for me to discover and analyse what I see.

Always interesting Harry such a cross profile of our subsurface. Indeed what you did with this image is what I also like to do : deriving the history from what you see over here, with also using knowledge you already have about the area (from books and previous studies). Understanding is something you get better in all the time you exercise in reading layers. And you get closer to the truth by testing several assumptions and finding proofs... All what would make it easier could help, drilling results from nearby locations, literature and ....photos even understanding those who provided the data ...:-) I am very used to live what you get and not what you wished to get and making the best out of it anyway.
I assume that you would like testing my honesty in this particular case (with our previous discussion in mind). You added some blur and layer filter to your capture, assuming that with your Nikon D50 you could have made it 10 times sharper and because the fine layering does not seem to be concordant with the more coarse layering. Am I right ? or is it me who doesnīt see it sharp enough ? Should I get off the dust from my screen and better clean my glasses ? anyway interesting capture and "about", for me a 7 as rating. vriendelijke groet, Paul
