What a face - she looks like an ole' girl on the prairie.
I don't know - usually I agree about lighting the eyes, but I think in this situation having them brighter would take away from those lovely eyelashes! Hard to tell from my screen, but I might suggest a greater dof to get the whole face in focus - the nose looks a teeny bit soft.
Overall a really gorgeous shot - one to give as a going away gift to your neighbors maybe?

A beautiful old girl... I love dogs... The tip of the kerchief does distract slightly... Excellent sharpness, colour and detail... Regards Ken

Another nice one, David. Molly is quite the poser!!! I had my two out today with some Velvia so I'll post if they turn out. (it was super sunny so I managed 1/60 at f8... hopefully it's all good!)
As hard as it would be, I think having the kerchief in either in sun, or in full shade would look more pleasing, as the bright end of it keeps pulling my attention to it. You could be able to tone it down
A reflector will help, or a little burst of flash to give her a sparkle. Someone once told me that wearing a white t-shirt will also bounce the light back and give a catchlight, and I tried it today, so we'll see if it works.
I love the glossiness of her coat.... it sparkles with good health. Nice job making it stand out so wonderfully~!

Thanks Sue. Molly's great. She just sits there and surveys her "queendom" while I shoot. She thinks our yard is just an extension of hers. I agree with you about the catchlight. It would make the world of difference I think. Unfortunately I didn't realize it during this shoot, but it's something I'll look for from this point forward. Maybe with a reflector next time? Her owner's have sold their house and are moving soon, so I'd better hurry before she leaves. I'm really going to miss this one.

Wow. Noble mein! I love everything about this except for the lack of catchlight. Her eyes kinda disappear.
However, that fur! I could almost feel the silk. Great detail. Nice and crisp.
