About I stumbled upon old negative films. I had bought a Kodak instant camera ~1973 and made my first photos. I gave the camera to my brother Klaas who then made pictures from the army base he was located at. It was the time soldiers had long hairs and were like provos to scare off the sovjets hahahaha.

music in that time:

War is silly, politics. Normal people want no war.
First time I see these photos !

this is really cool shot. I love old photos, and the time pieces they are. This is wonderful of your brother. I'm so sorry, if he is gone. He looks like a sweet person. that is great for you to find these old photos, what a nice surprise.

What a sharpminded reasoning for the need of the F/A 18! Woooow, thanks Harry! Didn't think of that, but you are better than satire! Of course they need protection, and hey! Just guess where Mobutu and other nice persons (and their stolen money) resides, ey? ;-) Of course Switzerland never refers to that because it is a small clean beautiful country, heheeeee! And above all really neutral especially when it comes to selling war equipment to the best paying customer. (Reminds me of prostitution, but that's another story! ;-))

As human beings that claim to have made a step forward we also have to get rid of such "murderer" attitudes too. Else we still stick in the same evolution stage as in the "uga-uga times". Unfortunately many too many don't seem to understand that any kind of admiration and glorification of such murderers, which indluces all that conglomerate of mythological "heroes" and "bravehearts", is only the best way to execute what we claim that makes us so "different", namely: Mind! At the same time exactly this kind of admiration feeds the war machine. So, when I hear all those analphabets that bubble and bubble about peace and understanding, and at the same time are in love with "conan the barberian", I must smile amused into myself.

Cheers and keep on seeing behind the curtains of betrayal, Harry!

Nick,

You are right. I went to the toilet and saw one spider had cought a fellow spider and consumed it.
There must be a murderer in each of us.

PS, Switzerland is right to defend with new FA18 planes. Dont forget, all the illegal and legal money of the rich and criminals need protection !!

Jen,

It is foolish to believe that we can ban war in a few weeks. What I wanna say is that many wars are about resources like oil, water, fertile land, usually of direct benefit for the government(s).

Think of Iraq ..............

Why does the US not send troops to Zimbabwe .. ?

A good one for its documentary character - somewhere between a personal photo album and an image of some newspaper, Harry! The softer focus added some of the looks of those oldie images that make their own epoche a long before the 1970s. The presentation is also good for this style.

Still I miss some more contrast and stronger contours.

About silly politics and "normal people want no war", don't be so sure. What we bubble and what we really do are many times too different things. The millions that enthusiastically supported that analphabetic clown and the invasion in Iraq were also "normal people", of whom the blind patriotic pathos was surely misused. *But* it *was* there in order to be misused. First there exists something, *then* it can be misused. And that something manifested itself in the thousands of messages in discussion forums, which contained the usual heroic nonsense like "we will show them", "we will hunt them to their holes", etc, etc, etc. Just search in the web for older discussions from that time and you will see if "normal people don't want war".

The soldier that we all have to kill is not the one standing at the other line. It's the soldier within!

Cheers!

Nick

P.S.: Switzerland bought new jet fighters for... protecting its borders! So many enemies around, you know! ;-) But the very characteristic thing is that the biggest part of society *likes* the idea of the homeland possessing the F/A 18. Most people celebrate and shout "hurrayy" when we have yet another low altitude manouver over the city. So, they seem to be also quite "normal" to me!

Paul,

Yes, Q65, Jerny Kaagman, Armand. It was the time of dienstweigeraars, flower power, Oilcrisis ( Joop den Uyl ), gasoline rantioned, hadiemassa, pacidists and John Lennon and Yoko Ono on a sleep in in an amsterdam hotel. I never went in the army, I was to tall. Yes, many smoked stickies in the army hahahahahahahahah.

Peace brother !

Hi Harrie. Remember Q65, Outsiders and others. I still enjoyed listening to Boudewijn de Groot last Sunday during a 6 hours car drive from Utrecht to Paris. Your photo reminds me to obliged civil service in The Netherlands in the years that 90% of them were pacifists. They were not yet asked to serve in Afghanistan, but instead they smoked hasjies and other opium products from places like that.

You show me this amazing and silly time, which comes back every time, like now in Afganistan, only they are volunteers and can choose to do this or not....I am not sure what would happen without armies, no wars?? Don't think so...do you? People will keep on fighting, starting with neighbours, that's life!! Peace no war...remember that one?? Great shot, very good quality either!! Big hugs and see you soon, liefs en kus Jenxx
