About You are killing me, fish, the old man thought. But you have a right to. Never have I seen a greater, or more beautiful, or a calmer or more noble thing than you, brother. Come on and kill me. I do not care who kills who.

The Old Man and the Sea, E. Hemingway

This photograph was taken on the western coast of Portugal, facing the Atlantic Ocean. A place where local fishermen still work as craftsmen to feed their families with gestures that have been inherited along the years. It happens frequently that they return home without enough fish, making the struggle vain.

Can't help but think of Hitchcock here. This is a wonderful image. Every little detail, for example, the fisherman's face, and his placement in the frame, the sharpness of the birds and the controlled flare all contribute equally to the whole. This surely deserves an award.

Gulls havens...I like it... very sharp capture, the chaotic ambient giving a visually surreal to it also makes me forgive the interference of the hot spot :)
