Thank you Chris and everyone who has made a comment. I agree with the comments about the wave. I actually love the way it curls over like marbled glass. It was the direction of the wave that bothered me. If it had been more diagonal it would have been sooo much better. I'll have another look at the RAW file and see if I can improve it. In a perfect world the surfer would have turned his face more towards me, but whatever this world is, it surely ain't perfect. I'll keeep practicing.

Hello Ann, first... great sharp shot on a moving subject. i know that it's sometimes very difficult. What i like about this picture is the sharpness, colors and the raging waves in the back. The parts that could be a little beter ( not al parts you can control, you must have luck with it) The surfer is very central, and like to see more of his face. It's now very much in the shade. If i understand it correctly, it is a crop??? If there is in the bigger picture a nice line in the wave that leads to the surfer, i would let it start in the left under corner.
My comment is not ment very hard on your picture.... i like it, but like always (also on my own pictures) there still some room for improvement :)
Greetings Chris.

I like this one better than the rtighter crop of your next post. I think including more of the water shows the power and expanse of the surf the surfer is dealing with. For me, it makes the shot more dramatic. MAry

I really like how the wave guides you to the surfer. Very dynamic feel to the photo.

"Is there too much wave behind the surfer?"
I don't think so. This powerful looking wave is as much part of the image as the surfer himself. In fact, since the surfer is somewhat dark and looking away from the camera, he is on the way to becoming incidental.

In this case, I dont think so Ann. I think if you had gone the other way, it would be just another surf shot. You have captured the full action. Surfer battling the power of a huge wall of water. I think its awesome.7++++++ Keith
