This photo is my favourite from a recent trip to Marrakech. We were invited into their house on the edge of the Atlas Mountains, in return for buying some rather over-priced necklaces from their stall. I was really lucky to arrive just as they were eating a traditional Moroccan tagine. It was dark in their house, so I cranked up the ISO setting rather than use flash, and crouched to get an eye-level shot. For me, that one photo made the whole trip worthwhile.
Nice shot - love the drama of it. Also great to have such a range of faces. Focus is lost in the foreground but not sure that this is such a bad thing as it seems to add a bit of movement to the picture. Great expressions.
This is really rather good. It captures so much that is typical (and tough) in the lives of these people. The lighting is also very effective, helping the faces to stand out from the shadows, yet emphasising small movements (like the spoon and the face of the woman on the left).
