Yes we've had mushies sprouting up all over the place down here in SA also with all the recent rain we've had. These colourful little fellas are called Muscaria. Apparently they start out in a white casing which then breaks apart as the mushroom grows. The remaining white 'casing' then gives the effect of the white spots over the red mushroom.
They are not poisonous as such, but if you were to eat one you'd likely be seeing some crazy things (or you'd double in size if you believe Super Mario Brothers) so I wouldn't recommend you try! :P
Thanks for commenting Cathy :)

So this is where it came from! We have had an out break of these mushies in the Central West of NSW, coinciding with the first real rains in 5 years. I figured they must've blown in from somewhere and you have solved the puzzle.I posted a couple of pics yesterday, do you know what they are called and if they are poisonous??? They are popping up in a childcare centre!!!! The photograph is very sharp and the depth of field is well handled, nice work. CC
