Well worth the patience and setup to get this little guy, they never sit still! Nice sharp photo of a chickadee. The foreward bit of out-of-focus fence bothers me a bit as mentioned by others earlier, but it's got a wonderful dark clean background. Could you attach a branch to the fence, get the birds to land on it above the fence?

Thanks, John - appreciate the prompt and comprehensive reply - I'm busy doing research on the Net for a new camera and lenses - that's why I'm inquiring about the technical detail.
Congratulations on the award!

Hello Lydia, Thanks for Your comment!
I got this shot by sitting on My porch steps about 10 feet from Our bird feeders. I knew the birds usually land on the fence before or after feeding. I pre- focussed the lens and made sure the background was not distracting (and dark).I also open the lens (f-4) to blur the background and used a fairly fast shutter speed(1/500).I simply waited for a bird to land and steadied myself really well.I take multiple images and this one was the best. Thanks for asking Lydia! This was taken with a Canon 80-200 lens(at about 180mm) and Canon Rebel XT (8 Megs)Best of luck! Practice , practice ,practice!!!LOL!
My best....................John

Please explain to this absolute novice how you managed such an excellent close-up with an 80-200 lens. At which dimension (how many megapixels)was the photograph taken?
Love the composition - great shot.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique This is marvelous, John. I always wonder how birds let you come that close, or is it your being fast on the draw? Whenever I try to point, even with a 300mm lens, the tiny bandits are long gone. very good focus & lighting.
Happy to see you too & thank you so much for your kind comment.
Rafi
By the way, I don't mind the left coloumn. I think it harmonizes the composition.

Superb! Eventhough I did not like the left most pillar ( a bit distracting IMHO), I guess you could not possibly have omitted that, and I will just ignore it as the rest 95% of the composition is outstanding! And I would like to niminate this tonight for some recognition.
Best regards,
bhabesh
