About Stripped, silenced, desecrated in blight
On the outskirts of town, just to the right
Sitting alone, abandoned and bare
Silent on the road of the ghosts, it is there

Once fine, once quite a sight
Endless red trails passed in the night
Trails of life, tales to some
Never more shall they come

A diner, a saloon maybe a general store
Something is dead, something no more
Not even a memory, at least for most
For 66, nothing left but a ghost

____________________________________

Okay, no laughing. I just felt this old Rte 66 building needed a poem. Besides, I wanted to enter it into the "Poetry in Pictures" project, which requires a poem.

The picture was actually taken in bright winter sunlight with long shadows. But I wanted it to look forboding. So, while some may say it is too dark, too moody, that is what I wanted to present.

Hmmmmm... maybe it was that rock with the leaves behind it.... I'll be back in a month, I'm going to look some more.

You are really cracking me up now Dave...
I have been re-reading what I wrote, and I do remember seeing what I thought was a hand creeping up from the ground--- I still see where it was--but maybe it is NOT a hand now ---
on the right forground center is either a Big leaf or I had thought it was a special effects hand... Can you see it now ?
I think the problem would be more the lack of being on anything--- since I am just naturally like this... sometimes I have to take medicine to calm me down tho .... LOL !!!!!

Thank you, Michele!

I lied about losing my artistic ability. Actually, I've spent the last month doing nothing but staring at this picture trying to find the hand you were talking about. I have decided to forgo the search and just ask you to send me whatever it was that you were on that night... LOL

Thank you, Ani... I can't believe I wrote a poem either... it's been years since I've done that. I was inspired that night by HBO's Def Poetry show...

Dave! I didn't know you were "into" poetry!!!

Great poem... excellent with the image.
No, it is not TOO dark, nor TOO moody... it is in my opinion presented wonderfully well in every way.
Love the blue by the way...looks good on my monitor anyways! :)It's all good!

You ROCK!

Hugs~

yo,poet!...very kewL words,Dave...like your post-edited version and you certainly achieved an ominous look...not sure if i like the darker indigo on top,but "get" your vision of this place...i love abandoned places and with one of my first images posted here,i,too, changed the look to give it a darker mood...you can see it here: http://www.usefilm.com/image/266776.html
and another of same house:http://www.usefilm.com/image/323050.html
(you probably remember these)regards,gayle

Dave -- Holy Smoke; this one is a stunner. Love the results you got and you started with a darn good photo; your post-processing is top notch. Great drama in the contrast, detail and color.

Dave: Feel free to knock yourself out. I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Thanks, it was an interesting building and I shot it from a lot of different angles and perspectives.

I really like the "darkness" and mood in this shot, great post processing to achieve the desired effect.

Well done,

Rodrigo
