Just an ordinary carpet seller, John! There are lots of them in this street in Rabat. But in French it can be quite insulting to accuse someone of being a "vendeur de tapis".

Doyle: I would certainly agree with you regarding the DOF and clarity using a long lens. But I would not have felt comfortable lugging it through the medina here...
Two good points, one I'd spotted (the blown out right side, which I agree the Nikon would probably have coped with), one I hadn't (the serious tilt!).

Hi John: I have a small camedia too . . . but just don't use it at all. I've gotten the candids I need by using a longer lens, say 200mm . . . so you can get the DOF and clarity without the subject's attention. Personal preference I suppose.
This is a wonderful shot with good color, texture and very interesting . . . but the composition has (to my eye) a serious distraction in the horizon line. I'm at work but it appears like at least 3 degrees of horizontal tilt counterclockwise judging from the vertical lines (see attached). The blow-out along the right side, particularly the lower right side would have been handled much better with the Nikon (IMO) but, then again, I'm a tad bit biased. I envy the opportunity to go to a place like this to shoot . . . the commute turns out to be a tad bit longer for me . . . but great subject material abounds everywhere . . . and certainly there!
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Fantastic colorful street photo, just the type I like most. I go for the SLR but one should have his compact digital camera available anytime the SLR camera not available, like in the car while going to work and so on. Excellent dear AJ, 7/7 Khaled.

Christine, thanks so much for your support for this image. I feel very guilty using the Casio, even though I bought it at the same time as the D70 specifically for those occasions when a big machine would be inappropriate. I'm afraid that all my best shots from this short trip are from the Casio...

Hi AJ-- great candid. I think you were right is choosing to use the Casio-- the D70 would have been too obvious and might have drawn more attention to you, and you may now have gotten soch a good shot.
Great job, I like the mixture of traditional garb with more western style clothing. It looks like the type of place I'd like to visit someday.
