Dear Dave, in spite of M.Kanemoto's critique and recommendations, I LIKE this shot!I believe you gave us the the spiritual meaning of this well-known church in Paris as the "House of Christ". I like the clearness of details and the all encompassing shot! The only thing that I would welcome is......wipe off those tips of heads in the lower side, please! You caught lighting in a most beautiful way! My compliments! YT

Hi Dave, What a magnificent, well balanced image. I like your exposure with perfect light on the dome and altar! Very good support, considering the 1/2 second exposure, a slight blur is visible, but otherwise very good image! Well done!

One of the best things in my view about the S5000 is it's ability to handle low-light in hand-held situations.
At a recent wedding where I had been asked to take photos, the Fuji S5000 (my main camera) was able to operate at 1/38s F5.6 indoors with natural lighting (no flash allowed), which was fine. A Cannon 350D which I had borrowed with its 35-80mm lens could best manage 1/4s at F5.6 which just wasn't fast enough.
An excellent image Dave.

Hi Guido, thanks for the comment! In this church they actually don't allow photographs, but I thought they meant flash, and I got this shot before I was informed that no photos were allowed at all. It seems to vary from one church to the next what type, if any, photography is allowed. Dave.

Hi Fred, thanks for your comment! It seems to vary from one church to the next where they allow photographs. Actually here there were signs up that I interpreted to mean no flash photos, but actually meant NO photos at all. I got this one before I found that out. Dave.

Considering the speed of the shutter this shot is pretty impressive. Looks great, what nice work done by artisans hundreds of years ago. Also, looks pretty massive and cavernous. Great shot Dave.

Very sharp for low lighting and no tripod. I like the way that what lighting there was features the upper and lower portions and allows the middle to sort of divide the photo. This is especially effective for the upper portion of the image. Del.

Aaah Dave: You do make that Fuji sing. The Italians were seemingly more restrictive about photography in their churchs so I just observed last year.

Propping the camera against an object and improvising around constraints is a well known tactic and I appreciate you talking about it in the About.
Scanning through the portfolio I think this composition reflects a lot of your other shots in that it is symetric - the middle of the church sits right up and down the middle of the shot. With the bilateral symmetry of architecture this is probably the best way to go.
Vertically you seem to break up the top and bottom on the half of the frame, and a lot of your other shots do the same. It works here, but with other shots of animals, people, nature, this can be too static and result in a rather boring composition.
Most photographers will go for the rule of thirds, and this is a nice place to start. Some other photographers on UF are going for fifths and quarters though, and the results are often really great - balanced, yet dynamic.
Jeanette Hagglund, Todd Miller, might be some people to look at - all architectural, but their compositions have some real life in the way they off-center their work and give the objects breathing room. Often they show an uncluttered and simple scene.
This might be something to start thinking about while you are out there...

You brought out the golden glow very well, Dave. Did you manipulate with PS to avoid the toppling lines. This would explain the somehow compact appearance.
