you are right, the eyes are kind of "poppy", and " made them like that myself (by telling model to open them as much as I can and "brushed" them after shooting a bit). I saw in several portrates of Rennassance time images with people with "morbus Basedowi". (Do you remember Reubens women with thyroids problem, overweight? They were a standard of beuty oat that time). Medieval people were not exactly glamour of 21 century,., he-he..:-)

Dear SVP, you're delecting us with a fine masterpiece from the Dutch Golden Age. The clothes are quite appropriate for the period and the details very powerfully help us position ourselves inside the picture.
The eyes seem a bit "overworked" and their intensity is quite disturbing.
Excellent and a very good decision from the UF staff.
