He looks like he is ready to spring off his stand into the midst of whoever displeases him in the crowd that passes by. The sense of motion is great. He does have some strange features that seems a combination of a number of Greek gods and various other personas. However, maybe he is very unique to Japan and we just try to impose our own knowledge and culture to unknoiwn things innorder to creat some order to them. The B&W really suits this. MAry

Hi, Bobote, thank you. Shrines are Shinto, Temples are Buddhist. Cemetaries are a Buddhist prerogative! This is one of Japan's most ancient Shinto Shrines, so those signs (which do look like tombstones) are not--they are just notices of various kinds.

What a winged character this Tengu is, this is a nice angled shot of this statue. His stance on the rock shows his power, you can see the sculptors intent to show the bulging muscles, which you have captured well. I am not sure if this is a cemetary, because of the tablets I see around him., they look like tombstones. Nice of you to be sharing again part of the culture of Japan... best regards..

This is a fearsome looking character and my big concern with him is that someone has issued him with a set of wings. A lovely mono toned composition my dear friend and again an educational 'about'. Well done Roger....Cheers...Ray

Oh yes! A marvelously vivid portrayal. I especially like the b&w, a most apprpropriate and effective choiuce, I think, but I really can't explain it. Good work . . . Regards, --George

Looks like he's going to say, "Yosh'... iku zo!" then fly off to do some sort of mischief!

I did like these two statutes as I have a soft spot for all these temples with teir decorations, not always statuse, but most often the buildings are of great beauty.I like the way you turned it into B&W having all those tablets with Japanese characters around. There is great movement in this statue! Gabriela
