Hi Rina,

Thanks for your comment, always nice to hear when one of my photos manages to inspire people....:)

That poor surfer, with such a calm sea, I'm sure he didn't see this beating coming...:) But that's what uf is for, to try such things and see what others have to say about it, very educational excersise!

Cheers,

Hugo

Great storytelling here, since there are no facial expressions to clue the viewer. But then it's soccer, so who's looking at faces anyway :) Putting the vertical pano to pretty good use too, and for sports photography!

You've given me some inspiration Hugo. I think I just might be able to make cricket look this good...

Thanks for the feedback on "Piha". Can't aptly express how valuable your opinion is. But yeah, that surfer took a 'pounding', didn't he?

Cheers
Rina.

Hi GG...:) I'm still laughing... What a great comment! Sorry to have missed you in the chat a moment ago. Would've liked to extend the lead we were in last time, but I'll guess that'll have to wait till June, heh?

Hey! I quite agree! The ball sure is an interesting concept... We practise with rocks. It makes us tough, not to wine when the Italians look at us...:) MUHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

I agree that a lower POV would've been nice, but the opposite side of the pitch was rather ugly and full of distracting subjects, and, indeed, I would've lost the all green background.

Take care, and I sure would like to thank you for the explanation...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

oooh yes!
Let me explain... this is called soccer.
I know that you have never seen this game in your country (NL) because you have not the talents as we have in Italy. It's played with a ball and ... ;)

It's a nice storytelling with a strong green colour. Probably not so dynamic as could be if made with a longer focal and from a lower point of view (but in this case you loose the green colour).

Bye

GG

Great experiment, I love the whole series! At first I thought you took the pics with a multi-focus camera, that I recently discovered...

Interesting presentation of what can be done in seconds :) I like the colours a lot; just wondering, is the ball a bit overexposed? Good crop & great timing ...

Hi Nicolas, Thanks for your comment. The reason I choose 800 ASA was because the Sigma 135-400 i used isn't very light strong, and I wanted to be sure to catch the "action" without any motion blur, so I opted for the very fast shutter speed. The difference in brightness between sunlit parts and more shady parts was quite strong (mid day) And last, the D2x performs very well, virtually noiseless up to 800 ISO...:) Hope this explains your question,

Cheers,

Hugo

oh well my friend.. you know that i love the soccer-football (calcio in italian language), but i'm not bravo as the photographer... eh eh eh... i joke.. and for this i'm a referee.. old passion!
you have composed a nice moment of dribling and with a great work of the legs.
maybe, or sure.. the after "frame" have the black player in the grass!!!
it seem that the red palyer have a great tackle in the ankle. (you have cancelled the image..? why?) .. here my little gift.. (other word.. i believe that the horizontal cut have a little sense of quit, not many dynamic, so in the moment like also the action..all the best!
ciao

cheers

Nice job here Hugo! It's hard to catch action like this on camera. Ive once tryed it to. (without any result) you got a wonderfull position here. Photograping only the leggs is really nice. My football heart beats faster when i see a picture like this! Wonderfull job. If its a serie like im used of you i wonder wat kind of action you still got :P

Cheers, Lex.

Great image Hugo. I like the exclusion of the upper bodies - really ads intensity to the action. The colours and detail are great, as is the framing. Excellent detail from 800ISO! Just one funny thing - a lot of action but almost no movement of the ball!!Kind regards.

Hello Hugo, great action shots and saturated colors! I like your split second timing, as well as the cropping below the waist line, concentrated on the action. What is best, is the sequential arrangement on a vertical. I haven't seen too many done this way, and I think they work very well in your case, they read like a strip of film. Great clarity on the grass and the black silky fabric, nice textures and shadows! Best regards, Ina

Nice series in the series. The vertical orientation suits the action. Three different sports for this set?

It rather seems to be a matter of tenth of seconds. From the beginning of the action to the end for sure less than a second. Good idea to show the whole action in different shots.

The vertical arrangement "Portrait" as of watching old film frames, where of sequences done for teaching purpose.
I like the idea of showing the lower parts of the players so to concentrate on techniques :)
Interesting work.

I agree with Judi - good triptych serie and also to have it vertical instead of horisontal!

Sorry, Judi, I had to erase it as I messed up with the pano 2:1 ratio, and I had to delete the image. Thanks for your comment, though:
