The wind and temperature could have been a reason but I can't imagine how they could produde such a clean cut, Andre. A local jet perhaps? Anyway, there are so many things to wonder about.
The image with the gap cloned out looks indeed more sterile, but I think that this time it looks sterile because of something unexpected. Normally we take anything natural as less sterile than anything artificially made by humans. The gap looks quite "unnatural" because it is so clean and straight, and we "know" that such straight lines are not the product of natural phenomena but rather of human activity. But this time the contrail (also human activity) added the presence of human spirit here. And so, I think, that it somehow gets combined with the gap to a more "general" view of that presence.
So I guess that some more contrails would enhance this one further, though this way it makes somehow also visible the solitute of human existence in a wide wide world. In this sense it also has something of the typical lonesome cowboy riding towards the sunset.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick, I'm not sure what caused those anomalies. Maybe it was changes in temperature or wind? You definitely did a good job of getting rid of them. The image looks cleaner but more sterile somehow. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. Andre

Yep, much better contast of the contrail on the sky, which of course enhance the luminance difference between the sky and the contrail itself.
I was about to say that the bottom has too much of a dark area, but no! The inclusion of the whole of the dark tree silhouettes and the plants in the front do trap the very interesting blue of the water, which in turn balances the coloring against the sky. Then the DoF does the rest and it does it very well.
Only that gaps in the clouds right to the left of the contrail... I don't know. Clone them off? (Attachment?) BTW, what were they? The shadow of the contrail on the clouds perhaps? They look like very clear cuts - quite unexpectedly.
Nick

Thanks again Fadel, This one was taken within 15 minutes of the swan photos. It was a great evening of photography for me. I never expected anything when I left the house. Good thing I had my camera with me :) Andre

Thanks Ina, The thing I am most proud of with this shot is that I made a real effort to get the shot right from the camera. I took about six or seven all together with different exposures. I took some in landscape and some in portrait. The one I settled on needed very little PS work and no cropping. I'm not some kind of purist that insists on taking things right from the camera. Far from it! I almost always crop and adjust my shots a little. This one just came out perfect for me. It was taken just about 15 minutes after I finished with the swans. So, it was a very worthwhile walk by the river:) Andre

Great capture of light on those diagonal contrails, Andre! The sky and the black silhouettes of the cattails and trees are a perfect sunset contrasting combination. What I like the most is the composition, with horizontal layers gradually increasing in size from the bottom to the top. This is the strength of this picture, in my opinion. Well done! Ina

Thanks Thilo, The contrails from the jet plane make the image dynamic, but as you say, it was actually very peaceful and quiet. Something else I didn't notice before is the very slight slope to the water line. I think this adds to the image a little too. If it was dead straight in this case, I don't think it would look as good. I wasn't really convinced about the yellow in the frame either, but no body has been picky about it, so I guess it is okay. Thanks Ray, I was very pleased with the outcome of this one. We were walking by at the right time and there is very little PS work in this shot. Just exposure bracketing in the camera. Andre

Hi Kanwarpreet, Thanks for the comment. I think there is a lot of luck and a little dedication. As I was saying in some other replies, I always take my camera with me on walks. Walks in the country always seem to produce something. I didn't know the sky was going to look like this when we left, So It's a good thing I had the camera with me. I can tell you one thing for sure. If I don't take my camera with me, that is the day that a spectacular animal or bird will decide to come out of the bush and just sit there for me nicely :) Andre

Very well seen, Andre! That bright contrail against the more muted cloud colours really makes the shot. The silhouetted trees are great for more interest, too. Well done! Dave.

Thanks Susie, Sometimes you can just tell when you have a good one. I knew it with this one when I was composing it in the camera. I didn't even crop this one at all. Andre

Andre, I agree absolutely regarding your choice, you got good balance between land and skies in this vertical representation.
Regarding camera - same as you Andre, I'm having one of my with me or close to me all the time - something common again. Cheers, n.j

Thanks Andrzej, I take my camera with me everywhere. We went for a short walk down by the river tonight and I just turned around and knew I had to take this shot. I took some in landscape and some in portrait, some metered on the sky and some metered on the trees. I think this was about the nicest of them. I thought the vertical presentation suited the action in the sky better too. Andre

Andre, I like the picture for it's smooth and well balanced composition. The cattails in the foreground are doing good job merging the layers of the composition pass through the waters up to the opposite banks of the river. Then just the silhouettes of trees and the spectacular skies. Multiple contrails some very natural but the zigzagy one from the plane draws beautiful bright line to complements your composition. Very fine expression, great picture. Cheers, n.j

I've seen similar contrails vivid and almost glowing like this one in the Mojave Desert. They're fascinating and I know they are real. This one even looks to be casting a shadow on the higher cloud. Too cool. Well seen and captured Andre. Beautiful colours. Razor sharp. Nice framing tool. Great shot.
Cheers - Ann :)
