Thank you so much, Giuseppe. Flowers are a challenge to capture in a personal way as so many of us are trying. I'm pleased that you think I have succeeded with this one. Tim

Thanks for your comment(s!), Gayle. I'm glad you like this one. The distortion was not by lens but by filter. I was using a number of different materials to affect the capture at this time, and I like how this one turned out. Tim

Thanks for your comment, Moe. I agree that greater DOF would have helped here, pulling the focus down from the bottle lip. A bit more contrast would make a difference, too, though I like the feel of it this way. Regards,
Tim

i think you had here wonderful back ground, but it is not clear though, i dont know maybe because of the lack of light, or because of the focus, for me i will make the focus till the middle of the bottel, my best regadrs..

Hi Tim. I've read your answer to Bill Morgenstern. The procedure you used for creating the two orchids, that you describe, is just the way I love most and try to put into practice. But the results are too, too, too much different from yours! Similar pictures remain my hoped, impossible aim. Even if I see that people prefer bright, vivid coloured flower pics.
While I admire your pictures I take heart!
Cheers.

What a perfect shot. Composition, colors and most of all the lighting effect.

Could you explain how you did the lighting on this fantastic photo.

Very magical lighting! I agree with you that the florid shadow colors are excellent. The sky looks like it was pretty special this day. A slightly lower shooting angle would show more of the sky and perhaps favor the architecture a little more, but on the other hand, including more of the sky would also make the exposure trickier and you could have lost the shadow color... The composition is well balance with the inclusion of the trees bsdie the building and showing the brick side was a great decision. I like this very much. Nice work Tim!

Nice one. As a constructuve suggestion, a bit longer exposure would have highlighted the fall leaves more. Perhaps more contrast in PS with a bit of saturation... Great composition though, the elements in the shot are very well framed and composed.

Wow. ..this one is beyond words, clearly surpassing even your PoD awarded photo, to my eye. The backlighting has brought a spectacular glow to the inside of the blossoms. The blue-hued highlights on the exterior of the blossoms shows the flower's incredible detail and intricately laced veining. A wonder of nature. Above all, you have gotten the lighting perfect here. Is it daylight? Use of the black mate cloth was an inspiration. I must try this myself sometime. Tremendous work, should be rated an 8 of a possible 7! A home run and a fave.

Amazing texture and delicacy. You have captured the essential beauty of this Orchid, a worthy challenge, considering the legendary fragile beauty of these flowers. Congrats!

This one is as beautiful as the next awarded. You don't see me but I am very hoften visiting your home. I love floral pictures and yours ... I can't find an adequate ajective. Often I see nice flowers photos and I think: "I too will try to do it". But when I see yours I can only admire, feel happy and think nothing.
Thanks.

Thanks so much, Kathy. Actually this was not cut out, just careful lighting against a flat black ground and post-processing to insure the contrast. I'm glad you like the result!

Thanks so much for your comment, Joel. I suspect that you are a macrofloral guy, too! I shot this against flat black then used ps contrast and burning to insure full black. I'm glad that you like it. I'll check out your portfolio, too.

Congrats on POD Tim! This is just gorgeous! I didn't go back to see what your technique was for "Orchid" but I'm assuming that you cut this out...and if you did you did a great job of it! Also, the lighting is just beautiful! Well done, and well deserved award!

Stunning contrast Tim!

This is beautiful! The balance of texture, light, and color is so wonderful! Curious if you extracted this, or shot it against black. The trimming of the stem was a brilliant idea to give the composition perfect balance.

Well done my friend! Congrats on a well deserved POD!

cheers,
-Joel
