The horizon line is so strong in this photo that it looks weird slanted.

Wow Huub nice work! The models eyes are wonderful to look at. I feel that the hair would have been nice in a darker value. This would frame the lightness of the models skin value and make the face pop a little more. Although if this were done then the background value would need to be adjusted either darker than the hair of lighter than the hair... Regardless the painting / photo collage concept is very strong. The final result has a very storybook quality / mood. The colors are well selected. In particular I enjoy the warm vermillion color in the shirt. And finally the technique is superb. Keep up the great work, b.

Khalid, thanks for the kind remark! I have been very happy with my scanner/scans as well. Currently I am using the Konica DiMAGE slide and negative scanner. I find this to save a ton of money on developing my photos. Now I can afford to pay a proffessional lab to process my slides sans prints. Then I simply scan in the best of the batch. Anways, thanks again for the positive feedback. Warm regards, b.

Huub, I see what you mean. This is easily cleaned up in photoshop on my end. Now that you point this out it does seem to pull attention away from the shape of the dock. Thanks for pointing this out to me, warm regards, b.

AHH, depth!

I agree the lighting is flat. This was shot on a very overcast day. I work all week and then the weekend arrives and the weather isnt always very cooperative out here but I try to work with what I have. Anyways, I agree with you, thanks for clearing this up. This feedback has pointed out the importance of depth, thanks for the very helpful educational critique :-) Cheers, b.

Huub, thanks for taking the time to comment. Does "flat" to you mean the color is "dull" or "lacking excitement?" To me this photo is a couple of things. First, this photo represents a successful zone system exposure on film. The colors are reproduced as I remember them that day which is important to me. Second, I was and am more interested right now in documentary images that are accurately exposed using the zone system. Ofcourse, composition is something I always try to work on as well. Also, I feel this image captures fall colors and mood in our area on that day which could be described as "dull" :-). I do appreciate your comments, and I will give this scene a second look in other times of the year which could be more exciting or emotional :-) Warm regards, b.

I had another thought about this. I think that I should go back to this spot and take a new picture with focus on the path. This would be better I think. Thanks for the idea. b.

Hana, thanks for the kind words. Your crop is interesting. Your approach certainly changes the focus from the colors to the path. I think both are valid. However, my original focus was the color of the tree so I think I prefer the original in this case. I do appreciate your suggestion/example. Warm regards, b.
