You are correct. And in that case, the police officer(s) is not as wide as you might think at first glance. Their leather bag holds their ticket-writing pad. I've seen a car getting a ticket from one of these officers.

Hi Tom!
I am so glad you didn't pass this up. It is a beautiful photograph -- definitely one to frame.
It has a serene quality about it.

Keefak ya Omar?
I really like this photo! I like how you cropped it and isolated it. Those are some crazy looking pantyhose.

What a beautiful portrait. Her smile in this photo is so wonderful, it comes from her eyes as well as her mouth. I like the warm tones of the photograph.

Hello Gustavo,
What a great photo! What I love about it is that it is impossible to tell what the scale of the photo is. It could either be a close up of sand along the shore or it could be a landscape shot on some other planet!
Thanks,
Melody

Hello Galal,
Great capture! Of your two photos of people waiting for the subway, this is my favourite. I like that there are so many people in this shot. I am always amused as I wait for the subway here in Toronto that even when there are a lot of people, we all just stare forward waiting for the subway rather than striking up a conversation.

Hello Arwa,
I love this photo. Great DOF. I also like how you have displayed the photo with a humourous title to go along with it.
If nature could be controlled, I wish the bird in the background on the left (behind one of the wings) hadn't been there.
Excellent capture!

Hi Tom,
I cropped the photo. I think the father's face is the most interesting part. I hesitated to do it before because I felt bad about cropping out the other son.
Is it more interesting like this?

Hi Tom,
This photo is so cool. I am tres jealous that you had the chance to see the great wall.
How did you do this? The whole black and white, selected colour thing?

Thank you for your comment! I realise that I overdid the contrast on the photo but that was my mood at the time. Here is the original:

Hi again Hugo,
You mentioned the clockwise tilt of the horizon. When framing this photo I was trying to decide between the horizontal horizon or shore line. I decided to line up the photo so that the shoreline would be horizontal. This creates a rectangular patch of sand.

Hello Hugo,
Thanks for the suggestion. I converted it to greyscale using Photoshop. Is that how you convert to black and white, or is greyscale different somehow?
Here is the result.

Hello Rafi,
I really like what you have done here. The colours create a very beautiful and interesting photo. I like the texture effect used here as well. You asked about photos of Petra. I have been there a number of times but I only have one photo in my portfolio: http://www.usefilm.com/image/946019.html
It shows the landscape rather than the ruins. I will have to revisit my folders tonight.

Hello Dr. Springmann,
Great composition. I really like your colour choice for this photo. Personally, I am not a big fan of the textue effect.

Hello Abid,
This is a great portrait. I really like how Khan Sab's face appears to be floating due to the dark background.

Thanks Tom, I like what you've done with it. In black and white, the tree makes me think of frost spreading on a glass plate.

I think this is a great photo. I prefer it cropped the way you have it here. The top part of the photo creates the feeling the the field goes on and on. If you wanted to remove the black object (although it didn't bother me much) I would crop from the right, leaving the top and bottom.

I really like those trees. In the thumbnail, I thought it was a city scape, the trees are so regular in shape, that they appeared to be buildings.

WOW!
This is a very interesting photo. It almost has the appearance of being 2D, like it is a slice through the earth, with the leafless trees actually growing underground. The more I look at it, the more interesting I find it.

Thanks Paul,
I must admit however that I did remove three rocks that were in the dunes using Photoshop.
The colour of the sand in Wadi Rum is really amazing.

Thanks Fethi, I was happy how it turned out. To be honest, it was more luck than anything. I had to set my camera on the ground to take the photo since I didn't have a tripod. In the end, that is what created the interesting effect.
Thanks again!
