Lisa, I missed this when you first uploaded it - it is fabulous, great lighting and excellent capture. I know you can sit around for hours watching these guys and get nothing but elk grazing. As far as the tree, me think that I would either like to see a little more of it in the foreground or not at all, however, more of it can start to get a little busy.
this just isn't getting much attention from the thumbnail - but still a good picture so don't let the number of views be an indication here.

Looks almost like a group of seven painting. Nice work! Love the light on the rock, only thing is I wish it didn't make a hot spot there.
Cheers, Marc

Hey, Lisa this is cool. I like the sky, and the sunlight on the granite subject. Your skyline looks a little tipped.

Brilliant, wet greens, with a neat little focal point in the background. I like the depth of field, though the fog makes it feel a little out of focus.

Nice subject. Maybe lower the cameraperspective a bit for a more unusual view at the building.

I'll 2nd all the positive comments thus far and add - whoa, it sure pays to go out on location eh, good stuff.

Personally, I think it's great - with good lighting ! Good job.

From the thumbnail, it looks like a lot of brown blobs on a brown background. Such shots don't get many views, peoples' eyes are drawn to the more contrasty shots with vivid colours and if you're short on time you don't then look at the rest.
It is a nice shot, maybe a bit lacking in colour but that's hard to get in an uncontrolled environment .
This one might actually look better in B&W.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this!

I think you've done a wonderful job with this Lisa. Keep it up :-)

I particularly enjoy the fence criss crossing in the foreground and the relationship with the trees and the house. Very nice photo. Wish I were there.

Love the electric greens in this one... but I long to see that Jeep in action... climbing a stump... you know... showing off! *grin*

This is very nice, Lisa!

I do feel that it's a bit cramped on the right though, but still an image with a classic look and feel.

Nice Lisa - I agree, good find and a great place to experiment.
You are getting some great results with that Oly D-100.

John's right Lisa...this place is quite a find.

I hope this is near you so that you can spend time shooting it in different light and up close.

What a fantastic old school! Looks like it's in a great place. I'd shoot this again and again under many conditions. Is it near where you live?

I like the shot as is very much Lisa. A cool way of adding depth and dimension to this is to get elevated. Stand on the roof of your car, whatever, which will separate the foreground from the background. Good find :-)

agree with the other comments and would add that the light is very drab... maybe go back in the morning or evening (whichever suits the location) and explore the site, it looks a good one!

I always love these dark, dramatic images and really favour them in my own work as well. I agree with Koen, that a crop off the bottom would look better - too much dark. And I have also learned to really watch those horizon tilts - a small one here, easily fixed while you crop in ps. Keep photographing those storm clouds!

Since the storm is the subject, why did you include so much totally black land ? I would place the horizon lower, though not too low either

Great setting to photograph - I come across so many old yardsites that are so overgrown it is almost impossible
to get any good shots. Suggestion - try getting more of the fence in the foreground by getting right behind it and photographing from there.
And that wheel has potential - can you move it so that you can shoot it in the foreground also.

Technically this is a good phot, and the subject is sure alright, but the composition and crop feel a little confined. maybe a slightly wider-angle shot, inlcuding more of the large barn, might bring it into more prominence as the main subject.

I like how the statute seems to stand on its own, instead of just standing on the support which is barely visible. It almost seems living. Cool !

An interesting idea, it seems to have just strutted down those stairs. Strange how the camera eye distorts perspective. Those inattentive students in the background add something as well. So do you study there?

It looks really crappy as a thumbnail, I know that. I find myself mesmerized by the blue water. The white areas in the water seem like lightning bolts, leading the way for the thundering presence that is to come. (Kinda Greek mythology-like.) Think out-of-focus along those lines, too. The blur and splash at the top, almost a whirlwind of power. I know the whale is blown out on top. I didn't know if I had enough pixels to clone it in more. Bottom line, I could see the whale's blowhole on top, so I went with it. Maybe I'm rationalizing too much... lol... but I liked the feel of power (power isn't always clear and concise to me)... the power of the whale blasting out of the otherwise tranquil blue sea (or aquarium, in this case). And I labeled it an "abstract."

Lisa,

This is out of focus, and over exposed. Surely, you're aware of this. So, I'm thinking you must see something in this, that I don't get. Please explain. (And no, I'm not having a go at you, I already know you're talanted, I just want to understand why you uploaded this particular image...)

Good texture in the foreground, bad texture in the background but you noticed that already yourself.
For me it misses something, a focal point maybe where the eye can rest while taking in the rockformations.

Hi Kennard! LOL! I looked at your photos... very nice... and then followed to your website. I already have your geocaching website bookmarked on my computer. I think I may have "chatted" on caching forums with you as "lizs." LOL! Small world, huh? I have thought of attempting your island cache, but not enough ice this past winter. And as of right now, I am signed up for that weekend event at Gov. Dodge State Park. Maybe I'll get to meet you guys there. hehehe :-) SMALL WORLD!

I looked at this and thought, "looks like something a geocacher would shoot." Then I looked at your portfolio and sure enough... a geocacher! Even though it's not the classic time of year to shoot landscapes, it's a challenge to achieve good the right balance and composition, and you did it nicely here.
