Hi Matt, yeah, I know it's washed out. I liked it and specifically did that to it. Felt it gave it an "antique" look heheh... So I called it "Photoart." See the real shot, which I think qualifies as journalism (I'm a reporter and could see taking the shot for a paper) here: http://www.usefilm.com/showphoto.php?id=18467

I don't know what it is. It was an empty gallery at the Art Institute of Chicago that was having a piece installed. Maybe a perusal of their website would tell? dunno.

Hey, so are you in Utah? You should tell me cool places to shoot if so. lol... lisapbia@hotmail.com I only get there once a year, if that. I may post my super-saturated sunrise shot from Zion that just got a couple local awards for you to see. ;-P LOL

Too washed out looking. Was the light level pretty high? Sometimes digital cameras try to out-think us.

O.K. now you MUST tell us what that thing is. (Please?)

This is very creative and intriguing. Are we perhaps looking at these trees mirrored in a wet reflective surface?

Lisa, I'll say it again, I really like this series.
Love the way you can almost hear the water rushing down the waterfall.
You have some nice images of your camping holiday.

Lisa... I like the cropped version better... it brings the town out more so we can focus on the quaintness. Very scenic and I love the warm light!

i agree with sara.. also ..dont know if you can have a camp fire at this location..(would love to know where its at-or is it top secret) but if you had a fire and cid a long exp at "magic hour" 1/2 hr before or after sunrise or sunset it would make a beautiful warm/cold shot...just an idea..but like camping with you through your photos any way!

Lisa, nice idea.
I like this series that you have done.
Could you have somehow looked out of the tent, and had the opening make more of a frame? ie. had more of the tent exit in the picture?

This picture means lot more to me than any other pictures. It takes me back to the time when my dad and I were visiting my mom's grave...

haha, hope no one was a sleep walkter Lisa. What a beautiful place to camp - and a phenomenal place to photograph - did you take some of the water without the tent - just curious. What an opportunity to try all kinds of lighting for the water, evening, early morning, etc.

Lisa, you visit some of the most beautiful places! And always in the right light! Love the colour of the hills and the storm pushing in, in the bg. In a word-- awesome.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the comment and question. If I posted this on the backpacking site I frequent, they'd know in 2 seconds. LOL! Guess I'm used to that crowd. It's a tent. That's partly why I called it "A Great Place to Rest" and mentioned camping there. Yup, I meant ON one of the rock ledges.

I was off to the side enough to avoid any splattering water, although the tarp I had folded up under the floor of the tent got muddy from settling into a few depressions in the rock that still had water in them.

(It wasn't really such a great place to try to sleep, truth be told. The sound of the waterfalls was nice. BUT, even with a good-sized pad, these ole bones couldn't get a nice groove to sleep in. So I was up early. I took a bunch of shots around 5:30-6 a.m. You'll be seeing more :-)

Lisa,

I love pictures of this area. I got to spend some time around there once but was never able to get to Hovenweep. This needs some boost in the dark areas to reveal the light I know is there. Good luck and I hope you repost this as I would really like to see it.

Great shot !
By the way, the horseshoe is attached to the gate upside down, this is why all the luck ran out (so I've been told) !

I like the idea of this image, I just think that the sky competes too much with the river. With them being almost the same colour I am drawn to the river, then directly up to the sky. Maybe if you cropped some of the sky out???
Nice vantage point, though!

Oh you two, debating! It's a cheapie digital, fixed length lens. It's w-i-d-e, as those lenses tend to be. I don't even know... it says AF 4.5mm 1:2.8. Translate that for me. I liked the gate, too, especially the horseshoe on it. Guess it didn't mean much luck in the long run for this farmstead.

I agree with you Koen. It's just the depth of field and the gate in front that has me stumped. Probably just a standard 50 or so. I don't think I even own one anymore. Forgot you can do good stuff with a normal lens.

Wonderful photograph. I love the antique washed out quality. Was this a 28 or 35 mm lens. The fence/gate in the foreground rather than upstaging the barn--makes the photograph. Good eye!
