Yes, the eyes are definitely the focal point of this photograph, with the subtle surroundings that make it obvious where she is.
Some may not like the extreme contrast to the eyes, but it was my way to get the point across.

Great hat! I want one! I love the focus on his eye! The colors are magnificant!
Don't make me put a piece of electrical tape in the middle of your frame though! hehe. This is YOUR picture, but have you tried cropping it tight on the left and more open on the right? It may have more impact, as this is a VERY good child portrait!
