Thank you for stopping by. I am glad you enjoy these. More on the way tonight of this same comet using different lenses...... the new ones will have round stars, with no trailing.

Thank you very much for those comments Saad. Since this is not my usual type of photography, I was so very happy when the results of my efforts came back as well as they did.
The posted photo was correct because at night after the sun sets, the comet will always point to the sun below the horizon.
I received two images on my CD of the same slide with different orientations. The image was fed into the machine incorrectly as viewing the originally posted. You see, in the comment section I should have rotated that image 90 degrees to make it a portrait orientation instead of a landscape.
This is what I should have posted.

the direction of the posted one is the standard as we seen them in journals and TV,
as for the direction at the comment section is unusual and is the one I liked,
and the Big Bosses do not do better, they do it closer,
my regards,
Saad.

Thank you Turi. Not a shooting star, but a comet this time.
Comet Hale Bopp stayed in the evening sky here for a couple of months as I recall, providing me time to improvise a method to capture the image.
Look up Hale Bopp on google images. You will be amazed. It was the comet of the century in my book... a masterpiece from above.

The effort is worth it, I have tried but I do like you, go to the field in order to capture these images.
Here, I assume that there has also been the era of Esperides, when more shooting stars can be photographed all year.
But this year I've lost work, do not miss soil.
Felicides 7 + +
greetings

Thank you Gary. I searched the internet for photos of this comet at this particular state of perspective looking for the same star pattern in the background.
... I wanted to find the exact date of my photo. No luck so far.
Hyakutake moved so rapidly during each night that I cannot find a star pattern to match my photo............. there must be 10's of thousands of images of this comet in various stages of development. I feel so lucky that I was able to capture this one. Thanks again.

Thanks Gary. Humble is the word. Wide angle and telephoto are probably used more often than needed.

This was a big event and it came and went so quickly. I am so glad that I had conjured up the means to capture it with a time exposure instead of using some super fast film.

Were you able to see it where you live?

I am pretty sure this was taken on KR64 and rethinking now, I believe 4 minutes was the duration and 1.8 or 1.4 was the aperture. I was able to do that only because of the wider aperture choices with the 50mm then on my 300L and 70-210 f4 lenses.

One other thing Brigette.
For a true sense of scale, note the first three stars in the big dipper's handle. (the three bright ones.)

No telescope. It was my 50mm lens alone. This comet was huge if you were fortunate enough to have dark skys to view it.
Thank you so much for your overwhelmingly generous comments Brigette.
I will show a 're make' of my old Hale Bopp image tomorrow night. Tho it looks better in some ways that my old one because of my terrible presentation, the digital image lacks the details.
You will see what I mean tomorrow night.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING SHOT, Randy!!! Was this taken directly through the camera lens or was it with the aid of a telescope? Truly, amazing capture... love the density of the stars and the great colors in the comet and it's tail. Into my favs it goes! 7+++++++++++++++ P.S. You have some incredible photos!

Thank you for viewing and commenting, Saad.
When I look up at night it gives me a great perspective on how small we really are in comparison to the entire universe.
Is the universe large, or are we small? ;)

Thank you very much Ray. I wish another comet would come along that was as visually close as this one was. I don't know if you saw it or not.
Hyakutake came fast and left that way too. It went from being a small fuzzy spot in the sky, to having a very long tail, and then shrinking back into a small fuzzy spot in just a weeks duration as I recall. I could detect using my small binoculars that in a few hours time, it had moved slightly in relation to the surrounding stars.
Thank you again, these were fun to do.

Thank you Olga Melissa for reminding me of couple more comet images that I wanted to show. I will post them for the next few nights.
None will surpass Hale Bopp, but they were fun to do.

Thank you all for the nice comments. It was the last evening of a week long camping trip around my state. I was back home the next evening hoping that some of my images would come out nice..... remember my images are all on film, so I had to wait a week to see the results........... oh the agony of the wait sometimes. ;)
