What a precious capture. I love the way he is stretching his neck up to see something. His colors are beautiful, and it is unusual to see a hummingbird's wings at rest. I put this in favorites. T.

You could change the angle so that the front view can be seen, specially the eyes. You can use the micro mode for this kind of pics next times....Cheers.

Barb, I think it might be a northern flicker, the only bird book I have is for birds of eastern north america, I have nothing that would tell me of the birds of western north america. Its a very good shot of the bird though, I like the details you caught in the feathers and the sharp eye. Hopefully there is someone out who is more familiar with birds of the west who can tell if it is the flicker. Jim Gamble

Wow! what an opportunity. Too bad you couldn't get him to look up at you. I think this is the first photo I've seen taken above a moose. As with all wildlife photos this would be far better if there were eye contact some how. I really like the reflections in the water around him. I hope you got more photos during this golden opportunity.
