Sometimes we come across an image which encorporates the beauty of nature, and the beauty of man in complete, aesthetic unicen - This is one such image. Very well done and great use of colour and shutter speed.

You've nailed a great moment here, but photographically, you're missing a major aspect. Your subjects are lit in the same way as your background and unfortunately they just blend right in. Obviously to fix this, simply using a flash will bring out your foreground and keep your background unlit

Nice work, nice portfolio.

Hi,

No, that's not what I meant - one of the orange petals (?) is cut in the top-center of the frame. It just makes the image feel incomplete. The other flower is not really noticed anyway.

You know what I really hate - when you're so proud of an image you shot - something that you think is some of your finest work and then discovering that there's something crucial missing. You have shot a great image here, and I feel this way about many images in your portfolio, but in this particular image, that something is missing. I'm a photography student, so I constantly have people criticising my work. 95% of this image is flawless. The make-up, the lighting, the focal points, the key level, everything is in order, but your models' expression is the remaining 5% and the 5% that pulls the whole image down. I'm assuming you were going for a seductive, intimate kind of look, but she looks more lost than anything else. Her eyes are well focussed which is great, but I just feel that her expression can be largely improved.

I like this shot, I think it is very good indeed, but I also think advertisement photography demands 100% all the time to be successful.

Kind Regards,
- Justin

Very nice Images like this can become very repetitive, very easily - lets face it, flowers are beautiful - but every mow and then an image like this comes along which stands out from the rest. The DOF, the colour balance, everything works in harmony. The only thing I would suggest is that the whole flower is in the frame - or - you crop in closer and show a a very detailed, close up crop. Nonetheless, I love this shot

Thet's ok Phil, I'm always happy to help out a fellow photographer. I'm not sure how familliar you are woth PS, but if you'd like, I could run through a short tutorial on watermarking with you. My e-address is if you're interested. Have a wonderful day,

Nice work phil, I like the shallow depth of field in this image the most I think, it really helpt to define the foreground. I think it all falls into place beautifully - BUT - the text you have in the upper left corner drags your image through the dirt. I don't know whether you've done this simply for security on usefilm or not, but it is very distracting. If you are really worried about people knocking off your images, just watermark them in PS - looks far more attractive and are almost impossible to remove.

Great photography Phil,

I believe I have just found myself an idol! lol. I have been using usefilm for about two years now but I don't think I have ever come across your work. I love what I have seen, but unfortunately cannot critique every image. I'd love to talk to you about your work - my address is if you're interested...

Awesome shot my man! I have just uploaded a Hugo Boss image also. An advertisement I shot for my portfolio (I am a student). I really like this shot, the rich blue against the white really stands out.

Well done,

Hi Scott - I have done a little of this work myself - from my experience, and the direction of the streaking in the background, the rider was actually moving through the air in a sideward fashion, either spinning or turning the bike in mid-air. looks awsome though huh? Great work I think.

Your first studio shot in two years and you jump straight into the deep end, shooting metallic subjects... You are ambitious, that I will grant you. You pulled this off wonderfully, congradulations Shane.

I really like what you have done here, the simplicity is very impressive indeed (especially considering what you were working with) But there are a few little things which are bothering me. The first of which is the cropping; I think there should be just a little more room above your subject so that it looks a little more 'grounded' - it is only a personal thought, but I don't think there is anything to hide outside the frame. The next is something I am not 100% sure of; whether it is your lighting of simply the depth of field, the three rings of the base of the cup disappear in the right corner - like I said before, this is only a personal idea, and it may be that including the remainder of these rings destroys the image, but I'd like to see them, even if only just =). I think I have to agree with Louise on the framing; because your image is prodominantly white lines on a black background, having a frame which is the same, blends one into the other. Maybe just a slightly thinner white frame, and then the thicker black.

But with that said, I really do like this, you have hit a very stubborn nail right on the head. Photographing metallic subjects can be horrible, so I commend you Shane. I love the grainy effect here too.

ok, I won't rave on about it because it is a critique site, but essentially, JPEG compression is what happens when you save, and resave, and resave (constantly) a jpeg file. PSD (Photoshop Document) and TIFF files do not compress the image whatsoever which is why they are generally quite large. The best way to reduce this is to save all your work as PSD or TIFF files and then create a copy of that file which you compress to JPEG format only once. Just another step in creating higher quality digital images, though as i said, it is difficult to improve on such beauty.

Let me first apologise for the breifness of my last comment, but I am sure you can understand my unrest - but it worked, and now the main page has launched an appeal.

But back to your image. I like this, the low-key feel I get when I liook at it is strangely comforting. You have a camera I would give my right leg for, so I don't need to tell you it is composed well.

The only (little) grudge I have toward this is the text where you have signed off on the photo. We know it is your work, and I for one admire it, but if you need to sign your images, frame them and put your name in the frame. It is mych less distracting. =)

Kind regards,
- Justin

This is simply too dark, I am sorry. Technology exists today to correct just about anything, quite easily. I appreciate your efforts, and understand it is not an easy subject matter, but I have uploaded a small image to show just how simple it is. If I can help any more, feel free to e-mail me =)

This is beautiful, isn't it gorgeous how dogs hair goes grey as they age, just like humans. I really love this shot, the only thing I think detracts from yor intent a little is the frame - a strong black frame will contain your image better, and add a little more contrast to your work.

Well Done, a lovely capture.

You can be happy with just one immaculate image can you - you just have to go and outdo yourself =). This is wonderful Shane. Looking at each one, side by side, I think this is a definate favorite. The composition here is great.

A beautiful photograph of a stunning woman with eternal eyes - who else could create such a wonderous piece of work but you? First I think I must congradulate you on your first attempt with photoshop tools. If this really is your first piece, you are well on your way to a wonderful place.

As I am sure you are aware, using programs like photoshop are going to improve your photography, whether you edit the raw images or not, but with that said - it is difficult to improve on images like this, and the others in your portfolio.

I do have to agree with Aldin and Roger though; It may be simply because ou are unaware of the best way to compress image files, or maybe just a bad original, but I can see a lot of the 'tell-tale' signs of over compression. And as Roger said - the area around your upper back looks unnaturally coarse - just two secdons in PS (blur/heal tools)will fix this. Now no one has mentioned it, but it seems intentional to me - it looks as if you have given yourself a pair of modest little wings, and I really like the effect, and if it was not intentional - please forgive my imagination.

I love this shot, I really don't think I need to comment on the beauty and grace of the model, and the encapsulating look in her eyes, so with that, I shall await your next amazing image with anticipation.

Well done,
- Justin

OK, I apologise greatly, normally my comments would be about your technical qualities, and the value of your photography. But there is something more important than photography to think about at the moment.
