I took this picture many years ago and at that time this rocket was on display at the Kennedy Space Center which is located close to Orlando, Florida. I'm not sure if the Saturn V is still on display there or not. Being able to get right close to it really helped me understand just how big this thing really was! Thanks for your comment.

I like the humour in your title! Nicely composed.

There is a bit of mystery in this image that I really like. Both the children are looking right at the lens, but the mother is looking just slightly past the photographer. It makes me wonder what she sees, the ever vigilant mother looking out for her children. A wonderful moment caught with good composition and lighting.

That blue sky is almost unreal it is such a deep blue - was a polarizer filter used? The bird looks like it is trying out for Canadian Idol!

The subject (the window) and composition of this image are strong but I think it seems a bit dark to me. Perhaps if it was brighter the whites on the wall would be too strong. The picture has me asking the question "What lies behind that window?" An interesting image.

This images looks like it could tell a hundred stories. The composition leads the eye around the image quite nicely, even with the wide format. I am left to imagine "Who are these people? Where are they going? What lies beyond the horizon?" Beautiful monochrome hues. The clouds are mysterious - it almost looks like you used the negative of the image for the clouds while leaving the rest of the picture as a postive. However it was accomplished a great picture.

Well done my friend! You put a lot of creative thought into how you could capture this image and what delightful results. I never would have thought of a maglite for a lighting source, but it worked perfect for this purpose! This image reminds me of Michelangelo's painting where God's hand is reaching out with the divine spark to Adam's hand, except in your image it would be God's hand giving the creative spark to the whole world. I like images that fill me with a sense of wonder - this image does that.

Thanks for the full response to my comments. I can't understand why others haven't looked at this image either, except that as a small image it doesn't stand out, it is when a person looks at the larger version of the image that your outstanding work is noticed. If you are interested in hearing some of Hugh Marsh's music I will send you a couple of MP3 files - maybe it will inspire you to create new images. Send me an email address I can send you MP3 files at and I'll be glad to introduce you to the creative violin playing of Hugh Marsh. You can email me directly at epiphany@sasktel.net

An interesting shot that makes the one building seem like the source of the colourful cloud. A creative use of foreground silhouette with background sky. Nice rich colours in the clouds.

Did you intend this image to be this dark? It is mysterious, but I'm not sure that was your intent.

I'm not sure if this post is too late - but thanks for all your fine images shared with this community, and thanks for all your thoughtful comments. I'll look forward to all kinds of wonderful new images at the end of your travels.

A wonderful subject, nice composition and colour (I like how the tones in the hat are matched by the background), good capture of expression. I only would like a little more light on his face, especially his eyes (which I bet were twinkling).

What a cool way to visualise this work in progress - so simple and such a good result. One question though - why did you add the sky, was the actual sky uninteresting or dull?

I'm not sure how you created this image but it is very energetic - I can almost hear the music flying around the room. This belongs on a CD cover or something like that. Ever heard of the great Canadian avant garde violinist Hugh Marsh? This picture looks like his playing sounds - exciting, different and with deep feeling.

Lots of wonderful colour in this image. Sure suggests a colourful wedding ceremony - not like some of the bland ones I've been at in Canada. This picture should be viewed in the largest size possible to get all the wonderful details in the flowers and material.

This is too wild - here I thought your other soapfilm looked like The Scream, and here this one looks even moreso! (Right down to the colours!) Maybe Edvard was looking really closely at some soapfilm...eh?

A great macro shot! Excellent colours and detail. Parts of this image remind me of Edvard Munch's "The Scream". I like the black on the right side of the image - it adds to the mystery of the picture.

A striking composition made up of strong lines and shapes interupted by interesting bits like the cell tower on the roof, or the door at the bottom. Well thought out and executed.

I like the picture of the window thru the window, nicely framed. I find the branch in the foreground somewhat distracting however. Overall the colours, the tones and the textures are quite nice.

This looks like a super-size chess game. Is the tower in the foreground a minature of the tower in the background? A fun shot of an interesting bit of architecture.

What I like particularly is the sharp focus capturing the details in the stones combined with the silky smoothness of the water (how long was the shutter open - half second?) I like how the stones look like they are disolving and washing away. Thanks for your comments on my pictures. Keep up the great work.

This is the kind of image I just love - the gentleness of the distant hills combined with the dark jagged lines of the branches in the foreground. This almost looks like a black and white shot, but I suspect it simply was the lighting that day and not PS alteration - either way a great image.

Hi Clarence,

This is an image of willow branches - I've taken only a portion of the original, cropping out the tree trunks - thus what you see are branches only of three trees. I've attached the original full shot.

Greetings from the cold Canadian prairies,
I like these tall narrow shots and this one is a great one. I suspect you used some software to remove some colours because I don't know how else you could get an image like this (unless that is a full moon and not the sun). However you created this picture it has a wonderful sense of composition and tone.

Thanks for your comment on my sunset picture, from looking around your portfolio it looks like you are a master of the sunset shot.

Hi Gary,
Wonderful image from the magic hour - giving those warm hues to such cold subjects. I like how you have given depth and definition to this unique frost phenomena by shooting when the sun was low on the horizon, casting long shadows. Nice job.

Hi Gary,
Looks like I'm not the only one who appreciates this image. Nature supplies us with some wonderful picture material, if we would only stop and take a closer look around us - as you obviously did to grab this unique picture of ice on a frozen lake. If you cropped the left side off as someone else suggested it could become a pure abstract image, but personally I like the surface snow which sets the image in context. Great job.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your comments on this image - one the the advantages of living on the cold prairies. In terms of cropping what you see is the whole 35mm frame - in other words that's how I took the picture so I can't show more of the surrounding image even if I wanted to now. By the way I've looked around your portfolio and you have some very cool (haha again) images of ice and frost.

An unique picture of frost. I like the red you have the red and black background to the frost - it adds more interest to the image and keeps the eye wandering around the intricate designs in the frost. The little hint of red in the bottom right hand corner is a nice touch - it moves the eye back to the red and thus returning to the center of the picture for another look. Great job!

Hello Alberto, Both pictures have their merit. I like the colour one because the strong blue contrasts with the muted colour of the mountain and buildings. I like the black and white because it brings out the way the shape of the buildings echo the shape of the mountain (which is not as noticable in this shot because my eyes keep getting drawn to the sky). So I guess it depends which aspect of the shot you want to emphasize. For my personal tastes I like the wonderful way the buildings match the shape of the mountain and thus I would choose the black and white version of this image. Either way well done!

The framing, the composition and colour are all wonderful, and the detail in the hair is great. I wish there was more light on the chimps face, especially on the eyes - the expression is mostly the eyes and I can't see enough of them unfortunately... at least for my preference.
