thanks again for your comments. i always appreciate them.
as far as metering, what would you suggest i meter off of? i split the difference between the sky and the quarter. as far as a flash goes, i have one but i need more practice with it. any suggestions to improve my flash skills? the brightness is always way too bright or no where near bright enough.
i think one of my problems is letting people rush me before i'm ready. i know i should take a few test shots but i give into people wanting to hurry up.

I might put up a color version and/or a sequence. That white rail on the front left drives me crazy, its too white. I tried replacing the color but that didn't seem to help, any suggestions would be appreciated.

i love the blues and purples, good sunsets are always timeless. i would like to see the surfers surfing, otherwise they are distracting and uninteresting.

great photo. i would love to see some more from this contest. some sequences would be nice to see. my only complaint is the text. i know the difficulties with promotoing your work but your text is too distracting.

thanks for your comments on my lookback image. after i shot the photo, i decided to try to use my flash and of course the flash wouldn't work. how do you think a pure black sillouhette would look?

its time to get political! our personal life cannot be seperated, especially when we have so much against us. i love the shot, how do you feel about the blurry people in the foreground? i wish they weren't there.

interesting photo. i would like to see this image with a dramatic cloudy sky and a little bit more cropping to get ride of the grass and rocks on the bottom right corner. i love the contrast with the boats.

i'm not sure when there will be another opportunity to photograph the campus preachers. our main lawn, the oval, is where they normally go but the entire thing is under construction. i have some pictures of them with the students but they didn't really turn out too well. thanks for your comment.

great picture. i love the tones and the feeling of exploration i get. the only suggestion i would make is to lose that border. i think it is a rare example when a border adds to a photo - normally it is just distracting. the off white bothers me. well time to look at the rest of your work.

great picture, i also love the colors. i would like to see more angles. i love pictues of people working cameras but for some reason the one in your picture is distracting. i think i would feel comfort knowing there is a similiar picture without the camera man.

i would prefer to either see a close up of the action or a long shutter speed to get some blur. interesting subject matter. pictures of carnival workers would be fun.

thanks for your comment and i enjoyed looking at the website you had listed.
as far as my picture goes, it is only one exposure. i turned the slow sync flash on and the crazy neon lights at the legion have a mind of their own.

i'm positive the picture is one second because i had my camera set on slow sync flash. it is not fully manual and automatically sets the shutter at 1/60. i like your picture but can't believe it has a three second exposure. the other ones i have are roughly 1 second. did you use a tripod?
thanks for the comment, bret

if we keep honoring soldiers, there will continue to be wars.
aside from my obvious objections with militaries and wars, i think your picture does not present us with anything new. your cemetary photos are done well, the angles of your camera combined with the rigid placement of gravestones are powerful. this picture is something anyone would see when looking up at a flagpole. my suggestion would be a new subject or new angles.

thanks for your comment. when i took the picture, i had the entire drummer in the frame and really enjoyed the composition. the more i looked at the picture, however, the more i noticed its flaws. the drummer had a terrible shadow over him that annoyed me. i tried using the picture for my computer background and windows blew the picture way too big and i could only see what i have now. it was a nice accident.

the cat standing up to the dog caught my attention but i also like the shallow dept of field (soft focus background). this draws attention to where it should be - on the animals. my only suggestion would be to crop. a tight crop around the dog and cat (but not the whole animal) may add to this beautiful picture.

i don't think it's needs any cropping. i would love to see a similiar picture with a long shutter speed causing the train to blur. i don't know if summer would have the same effect.

beautiful photo. too bad their wasn't some better sky conditions. if you have access to these mountains again, try going out around sunrise, sunset, or when there is extreme differences in clouds.
how is your d2h teating you? i have almost made up my mind to take out a loan for one. if you could e mail me back a response, i would appreciate it. thanks, bret liebendorfer.1@osu.edu

i think you have the right idea, which is most important. use a tripod to prevent the bluriness and maybe try a vertical view to see more water and less ground.
