hi abdul, it is a nice night shot. a bit noisy though, i sugges you run it through a program such as neat image to get rid of that noise. free download online and it does wonders for filtering out noise.

warmest regards ~ james

thats a good portrait of a cat. the whiskers are quite clear and sharp. good expression on the cat's face as well.

best wishes. james

hi jane. this one could be improved by not overexposing as much, (hard to do this type of photo with one very bright spot and the rest much darker), i think the culvert/drainage pipe could be hidden as well. actually, might have been better had you stepped forward a few paces...

take care. james

certiainly a different perspective here. it looks fine, but i think if you had a bit longer exposure time the lights would have more of that star effect. what was your shutter speed on this one?

hi aj. thanks for the suggestion. i would like to frame some of these photos i have, but havent decided how to do it. your idea is simplest and probably most effective.

thanks. james

this is indeed a very nice shot. wish i could find this type of view out my window. reminds me of the photos i saw taken around old bagan in myanmar. misty and mysterious looking.

panda shots are usually nice, mostly because its not easy to get a good shot of a panda. at least these ones were a bit more active than the ones i saw in china last summer.

good work jacques and take care. james

my apologies shirley, when i pointed out minor flaws, i did indeed mean minor. and i should have mentioned what they were. one was already noted, another i see is what looks like a wire running thru the hair of the girl on left. i might have cloned that out... most people wont notice it anyway.

take care. james

nice portrait. there are a few minor flaws, but overall its nice. i've suffered from similar setbacks in past work like this... makes me want to go back and do them over again. but its not that simple all the time.

you have a nice portfolio. keep up the good work.

best wishes ~ james

excellent desert photo and very wise to use the silhouette. i say that because these days most of the people you'll see on camels or other animals in the desert are dressed like tourists, and that takes away from an image like this. with the shadows, you cant tell who the people are.

its only in the past two years, since my first trip to a desert, that i've learned to appreciate photos such as this. well done.

a very excellent composition from the air. well done. few people have the chance to do this type of thing. i've been thinking of taking a hot air balloon over a few parts of china, but havent got around to it. great idea though if you can organize it.

Hi Alison. The people who live around Karakul Lake apparently don't stay here year round (so I was told). In winter, they make off with their yurts and animals and go elsewhere, probably to lower ground. As for making a living, in summer, they seem to make enough money from travellers who come by and look around. Any income would be derived from those travellers who stay the night, one night in a yurt costing RMB30 per person (about $4), and a meal costing RMB10. In winter, who knows? It's not expensive to live around this part of China anyway.

Warmest regards ~ James

good weather is the key in hong kong alberto. unfortunately, i have rarely found it to be good when i'm in hong kong. will be going there tomorrow to get a new visa for china, without my camera, so i'm sure the weather will be fine tomorrow.

i've heard of people standing on top of and then squatting on sit down toilets, but i couldnt believe people would actually do that. i heard about it frist when i found out canadian soldiers in afghanistan constructed separate toilets for afghan workers in the military camp. locals were doing what this sign prohibits and messing the toilets up (well, in a way we dont need).

nice shot. if you havent gone already, try visiting wuzhen which is easy to get to from hangzhou. i think its nicer than zhouzhuang, and less tourists. unfortunately i was there in winter and the weather wasnt ideal for photos (rain/snow). but still pleasant place.

i guess i was looking at your photo of the TCW at the same time you were looking at mine. yours is also well-done. it would be a shame if one arrived there and was told no photos were allowed.

beautiful landscape. yes, clone out the trees at bottom right, or crop them out. and perhaps up the contrast a bit for a more striking image.

hi tim. just wondering how close to the ground you are when taking a shot like this. the angle says to me that you're not standing up, and it seems to work. or maybe thats just the side angle of the lens i'm seeing. the photo is quite nice.

i knew i had commented on some of your photos in the past but i couldnt remember them for some reason. once i saw the statue of turkmenbashi (and this one), it came back to me. few people have been to turkmenistan taking photos. good shot of something many people dont get to see.

this one is simply astounding. i'd say its poster material that should be for sale somewhere. how did you ever come up with the idea in the first place? as for the shaky tripod, the manfrotto is what you want, those things are built like tanks. unfortunately so much so, that they're difficult to carry around. i dont travel with mine, but i really should as it makes a difference.

i would probably have tried to clone the bits out at the bottom, but if its not done perfectly, then it can look worse than if they hadnt been cloned out in the first place. the frame is nice too. nicely done nonetheless.
