very good composition, a very moody photo you've captured...
I think it fits the project "alone" very well.. a candidate for an award IMHO..
regards..

Yes sir, it is much better in black and white.

The original lacked punch as the colours were very washed out and it was only a so so image.

This one is in a different league.

Regards

6-8 weeks!! damn nice! hope to see good images when you finish if not before. I have been trying to post a blog of my travels as a experiment. Turns out to be a bit of a motivator story and picture wise.

Hi Tim. There are still going to be many places in China that will remain unaffected (for the foreseeable future) by the ongoing and rapid development of the country. The key is just to find out where they are and go there.

At the moment, I'm on an extended vacation (6-8 weeks), I'm just having a hard time figuring out where to go.

Best wishes ~ James

I guess this is the reality of distant places far from the help we come to expect here in Canada. A harsh perspective on life for some. Brings to mind how fortunate so many of us are with comparatively small discomforts.

Hey, it is great to see you posting again. And as usual with a perspective that is intriguing and fresh. The opportunity of visiting all these various areas of China before the huge modernization totally takes hold is fantastic. Although many of these changes may not happen in our life times in the areas that you are exploring. Just the same, even the advent of TV coming to these distant areas never mind tourists creates huge changes in seeing what the other part of the world is like in comparison to what they have currently. As a photographer I am interested in how they are living before this huge change. You photos seem to touch on this very aspect in your travels. I am glad to be able to view a small segment of this through your lens.
Is multi image perspective is a great way to bring this series of events together. Looking forward to more when you have time.

Tim

Welcome back James, its nice to see you posting again. This is the harsh reality of many places and It is hard to see. A good journalistic photo. That one poor woman, it's hard to see how deformed she is. Alison

Hi James,
Congrats on the award for this image!
Another good example of simplicity in an image being better than a busy image.
You have a really nice portfolio. I have to come back later when I have more time to browse.

hi tim. i'd never heard of a concrete yurt until i actually saw them here. didn't see the inside of these ones, but they're right beside the felt ones we slept in. the felt ones are quite comfortable, and warm, and i've even seen photos of some where they're decked out with a stereo system and full range of electrical appliances :-)

i'll be passing my future trip ideas on to you very soon. take care ~ james

hey tim. my back was fine (i have problems usually the first night on a new bed though). you do need to be careful of who's in the yurt with you. i had the guy i was traveling with on one side of me, and our driver on the other side, and i mean right beside me. and both sawed a forest of logs that night lol. i ended up going for a walk outside at 4am and just stayed out till the sun came up. i'm a light sleeper.
