This looks superb in full pano mode - it's great to see you taking full advantage of this UF feature. It's a fascinating study of the architectural lines of this building.

I think the rice terrace images you posted a year or so ago, are some of your best work. I hope you are equally successful this time around. Best of luck, and safe travels.

Mark, I just left Hong Kong. The weather was good but once on the peak (Victoria Peak) you could see the massive cloud of smog hovering over Hong Kong. The photos I took up there two nights ago are a bit disappointing but will see if I can make something out of them.

I will be off to Thailand for a week on the 29th, then when I get back, going to travel to Guangxi again, and visit the rice terraces, some old wooden villages, and some very nice covered wooden bridges. All in the same area as the rice terraces.

Take care ~ James

James,
Very interesting. The picture has a surreal aurea about it.
I have no knowledge of HDR. Will look at the link and try to learn. I hope you are enjoying your travel time.

Hi Jim. I read more than a dozen different HDR "how to" sites before I found the one I linked to above. It was the easiest one to understand and was one of the few good ones that had a tutorial using CS2 and not Photomatrix software (although the writer of that tutorial also has a tutorial for Photomatrix).

I'll upload my first attempt at processing an HDR photo here so you can see the difference following a good tutorial makes. This photo was taken from the same place as the original upload, just a different side of the tower.

Warmest regards ~ James

Quite an impressive shot nonetheless. Thank you for posting the link to the HDR tutorial. My quick experiments with HDR have not been very successful. This shot just Pops!

This is a great capture James, very interesting picture and very colorful. Really fascinating looking at it, lots of people to see in their naturalness. a very good study of humnan you've captured here, not on the street but on a river.?!
great shot!!

Hi Tim. I had several other desert photos that looked fine in colour, so I thought I'd try this in black and white, and I was pleased with the results. In fact, I'm planning on doing more photos in black and white now, particularly photos of older parts of some cities and towns here in China. I think that kind of setting looks better without colour.

It is nice to see an open space without a lot of people. The lines , shadows and textures are all so rich in this shot. Alison.

Tim, I thought of trying to straighten the image out a bit, just seemed I had the camera at an angle when I took the photo. But then I just realized these places aren't built straight to begin with.

Thank you very much sir. in fact, this was one of my first images shot with a digital camera, having only purchased the Fuji S5000 a few months before going to Detian Waterfall. Your suggestion on the wide angle is noted... I hope to go back there again this summer, and redo the photos done previously.

I've definitely learned a lot in the past four years of digital photography, most of it from others on Usefilm.

Amazing capture James, I agree with most of the critique, nothing more I can say except amazing!!! The history of our rice terraces were settlers from this land ,China, who arrived here 2000BC. There are places in the mountain ranges where the terraces extends throughout the mountain but I haven't been there yet.
I enjoyed looking at your photos, now I know another good travel photographer, I enjoyed looking at places you've captured, very interesting perspective, feels like I've been there... cheers!!
sorry wasn't able to check your portfolios before, I regret that...
regards...

I am so touched by this photo. I can see how you look at ordinary people with respect and most of all love even in a foreign country unkown to you. The picture its self is carefully composed, natural expression of two sisters, so peaceful feeling. Though poor but they are content about what Bhuda arranged and planned. They are living with dignity in countryside with more pure mind than people in metropolitan like me. I also noticed you low down your body when taking this photo so that you eye contacting throught your lens with two girls are almost in paralle. Thank you so much for sharing this wondeful portrait of my countrywomen!

It is very informative photo with your remarks below photo. I heard different story about these long neck women. It goes like this: if she has some afairs with other man and if her husband got to know, he will then remove the rings. Result is just what you mentioned...

I like this scene though I get used to. For I am living in this area. You have eyes which refect the real daily life of ordinary people in certain area. A little town with peaceful atmosphere. This is what you documentary photo created. Thanks for sharing.
