Very pretty--perfectly exposed and beautifully composed. The angle of the pier relative to the boats is nigh on to perfect. Best of luck, --George

Yes, it is overexposed. Sometimes, though, one thinks the image is OK in spite of its technical shortcomings. A judgment call, to be sure.

The question is--Where did it go? This shot (and a few others I've dug up) is from a few years ago. My elder daughter now has the Olympus, still a very capable camera.

You might want to check the title again, Brad. But I do have other clear shots of the structure. Thanks.

The passions of youth! In terms of my idols, I have moved on, although fine technique still holds my regard. As Ben Shahn explains, "The Shape of Content" impels the power of an image even as you suggest in your appreciation of the Hemingway portrait (also a favorite of mine along with some of his lesser-known pieces).
Best wishes as always . . . g

It is a beauty, nonetheless. The soft quality gives a romantic, mystical quality that seems most appropriate to the subject here. This has a wonderful style and makes a very effective image. You might be interested in some of my experiments with such subjects: I tried taking two shots identical except for having one with focus on the closer element, the "frame," and the second with focus on the distant one. Then make a composite of the two with foreground and background relatively sharp. Ah, drilan, I had to be away to deal with family matters--pleasant ones. After reading the comments on the first post, I resolved to make another try as soon as I returned. Annoying--never! Karsh, by the way, was one of the great photographers I first knew about and admired. Such a distinctive a style and so seeminly unself-conscious. Later, I discovered the variety in his work that yet retained his mark. As a boy I thought, he's the one to make my portrait! Alas, it was not to be. ;-)

OK, Mark, I do get carried away sometimes! But I think you’ll understand if you see his La Chateau des Pyrenees. This is not the first time I've thought about Magritte in looking at your work, though. I'm glad you checked him out. His vision and yours seem to be parallel. What do you think?
