Thanks Alberto. The reason the mouth is so big is that the zoo keeper was throwing carrots into it :-). He'd call the hippos, show them the food and they'd open their mouths to be fed.

Hi Nadia,
the South Africa trip was a honeymoon - a destination my wife wasn't aware of until she got on the plane in Perth :-).

The lion experience wasn't at all frightening, a car's a safe place to be. We camped and hiked in the African bush - there were wild elephants all around, and canvas doesn't offer much protection :-O - that's frightening!. I have lots more photos of that trip here: http://www.hartill.net/Africa/

Kangaroo Island is not far down the road from here, so we take overseas relatives there. We've done it twice and will no doubt go there again one day.

Thanks for the feedback on the photos.

Cheers,
rob

Thanks for the comments. It's always the case - carry the tripod - see nothing, don't carry it and there's always something to shoot :-)

Thanks Len.

A tad more focus would have been nice, but not possible under the circumstances. I was happy to capture the bird in its natural environment, and I'm glad you like it.

Hi Linda.

I thought there were only 5 of them, but you're right, on closer inspection there are more. I can see 8 now.

Thanks Mel. I think you're right about the name.

We also saw one of the nests on the banks of the river where any croc could make a snack of it.

Do you have a 'before' shot of the mouse to go with this 'after' ?

Re: colours - it's spring in South Australia, about the only time we get much colour here.

I'll have to find a good shot of the tall red/pink veldtgrass we have growing around the farm, it doesn't last long.

Ah autumn, I miss the colours and changes of autumn in the UK.

In this part of the world, autumn is when things start to grow as things cool down and the rain returns. We go from burnt browns and yellows to green. Our native trees are evergreen eucalypts, so no colourful leaves or leaf dropping.

Thanks for the reminder Claude.

On the left, the top bit sticking out looks like Western Australia, the next like Wales and the last is Devon & Cornwall.
