Khaled, I wish I didn't crop left either :-) But this was the best I could do trying to capture a moving umbrella with the right backlighting - those wedding processions stop for no one! Cheers, --Kip

Marco, thank you. It was early Sunday morning, very little chance of anyone in Sydney turning up for work then! Mind you, I did have to wait for a security guard to get out of the way....

Shirley, thank you. I tried a tighter crop on the right but didn't like the balance in the composition as much.

Jara, this was in the the Mela ground, with the two guys on the newly whitewashed stage. It was one of those exercises in patience waiting for the scene to clear down to this image that i was waiting for.

Thanks Aleix. Yes, I really think there is a great story written on his face. We shared some chai and lots of arm-waving communication for a while. Such warm people.

Steven, you are right. Was playing in CS2 with metadata templates and messed up. It was, I recall, 20th at f16. Kip.

Steven, you're absolutely right. Have been playing with PS metadata templates and didn't realise it saved *everything*. Have edited the template manually now.
It as 20th at f16 if I recall.

Angel, I hope you took the plunge and went down the alley. Sure looks like there's some great Korean bbq and kimchee lurking down there, I can almost smell it. Like the mood and the tone of the image, perhaps a little more could have been pulled from the shadows? Would like to have seen what it was like if you went the extra 10m! --Kip

Thanks Bora. I struggled with the cropping of this for some time - there is more detail to the right, but then the spire just seemed too centred for the balance of the image.
It's a shark net across a beach (this is the pylon on one end). It dates from the 1930s I think and was intended to protect bathers from sharks. It's more iconic than functional.

Thanks Reza. I took that shot about 10 days ago. With the tsunami that hit Chennai badly yesterday I wonder if these guys might have been on their last fishing trip.

Enas, somehow I figured you'd know a lot more about this than I :-) Anyway, the English-language guide books refer to the area as Coptic Cairo, hence why I used that designation. I had a fantastic time exploring Cairo for 3 days just solid walking (and then another 2 weeks travelling in other parts of Egypt).

Hi Enas, coptic cairo is the area in Cairo which is historically christian and where the majority of related churches are found. It's a pretty old area with lots of narrow alleys, markets and street life that are a pleasure to wander through.
