Carol,

Technically brilliant - the emotive value of this image is stupendous layers of meaning available for anyone who wants to contemplate it for awhile...

Sandy,

This is quite a good minimal DOF...the window frame leads into the figurine nicely...

Things to remember about a minimal DOF are that light and shadow are greatly enhanced in the viewer's eye when they can't make out the stuff in the background. I find that it is always good to try to find a dark background (at least for my style) as the light will always show up more than you expect it too (nice thing about light )...

I agree about Macro lenses and as I love minimal DOF, I use them a lot. I also find that to enhance the vagueness of the background, use the fastest practical shutter speed - you can always lighten the image again (too fast is too grainy).

I am not sure about the red object in this image but I am sure it will work very well for many...I like the tiny bit of debris by the figurine's foot - it is almost the sharpest focus in the image and lends an interesting perspective to the shot...

I kind of like this kitschy rusted thing but then sometimes, I like kitsch...

I like the DOF here and the warm tonal gradation of the sand is wonderful...one could argue for a bit more detail on the foreground area of the poles but otherwise - excellent image...

From a journalistic point of view this captures the moment - I find it interesting from a "me" perspective how bright the trees behind the banner are - the seem nearly the same color...

The image seems to balanced between sky and water imo...still it is lovely...

Verena,

This image is spectacular - the perspective, the arm, the everything - I can't even articulate it but I love it!!

I am not so much into bug shots although it is a good study of technical skill... this one looks like he is walking the cable of a suspension bridge - wide enough to walk on but not sure about reliability...

I like the relaxed pose of the man in the background as opposed to the light tension in the foreground man's back - the girl I find odd and compelling as she seems almost like she isn't in the image and yet she is clearly there - like an overlay or an apparition...

vivid expression in a classic shot - the setting (when known and understood) lends a particular power to this image.

I agree with Fabio

some of this would be great in a small book of haiku - on photo to verse ratio per spread...

I love the lead in through her book. She gazes over it and then we see that annoyed stare - very funny. Tonally, this works well too...I have one problem with it and that is the white triangle protruding from the back right-hand side of her head...it is very distracting as it matches the tones of the book and so I tend to move between it and the book. For digital processing you could clone it out...

Stefan, I have no suggestions as I have not tried an actual panning shot. All I've tried is to let it blur as she moves by using a long exposure. So that the swinger is a blur and the background is stationary. I a like the feel and movement here. In fact, I think I will have to try this myself...funny how the obvious can escape me!

I like very much the movement created here simply by the good use of DOF - great clarity on the focal flower...

The crop here is refreshing and dynamic - I don't mind the softness but I do wish the clarity were in her eyes rather than the rim of the hat...

The thing that I find the most distracting is the yellow - tones - I would go black and white with this - the correct conversion and her skin would smooth out beautifully...

fascinating techinique I can see that there would be lots of possibilities for this...I am not entirely sold on the background - the orange squares are good some of the rest of it seems a tad busy...

you know, I don't have much to say - he makes me smile and I can't focus on detail because he tickles me so - reminds me of a child of the sixties or seventies trying to peer out from behind a mop of shaggy hair!!

phwet - it lifts up and flops down again!!

This works well and is unusual in this genre...the sepia tones of the trees remind me of a certain style of classic landscape and the the faded orange of the automobile is very complimentary to those tones...and the dark brown rusts echoes them nicely...you were alert and remembered to tone the reflections too...this is an excellent and refreshing shot in this genre

A more dynamic and well-organized composition - the last one teetered on the edge of chaos but still held our attention - this one has a wonderful vertical movement...

I noticed that this one is vertical and the previous (if I remember correctly was horizontal). I find it interesting as typically tryps are displayed in the same format. For some reason, I've never noted how you handle that before. However, both scenes needed the layout they had and the strength of the image should not become subservient to the format imo...

I like the tones and shadows of this shot - however, I do think that it could benefit from a tad more sharpness on the left-hand side of his face (as in our left, his right)...
