This photo has all the proper elements that make one keep coming back to it. There are beautiful colors, the drama of the ocean, and a sense of hope with rays of sun hitting the pinnacles. Excellent work.

I like the contrast between the softness of the water and the texture of the rocks, which your lighting has brought out beautifully.

it is the late evening light that gives this image its definition and energy - great capture with all that detail and power from the waves - terrific

brrr, you can tell with this shot that snow is on its way. You've captured the wintery feel very well with the blue hues and the cloudy mountains. The tree is a great addition!

A magnificent shot, maybe the foreground is a bit dark for my taste.

thanks for the comments.

I haven't metered the Cokin 121, as I haven't used it since dialing in my ND grad technique. I switched to HiTech almost immediately. This one definitely generates a greenish cast during sunsets.

Perfect placement of the sun. Good use of the golden mean. I really like the three distinct but harmonic regions in the composition. Great mood. I like flare in some cases, but not particularly here. Perhaps waiting just a minute (or less) longer so that the sun is a little lower might help. The Cokin grad worked perfectly here. Its hard edge fits the scene perfectly and any colour cast it might have (greenish?) is less obvious since the hue of the sky is different from the sea.

My Cokin 121 is actually three stops according to my camera's meter. Have you noticed the same thing?

Nice job Steve. The frame is filled with beauty, and I like the sun off-center here. The breaking wave does add a dramatic element as well. The sun is just about to leave us all (only a little flare here). And as we say here on the islands an aloha and goodnight SanFrancisco....or wherever you were.

thanks all...and yeah, I waited with my fingers crossed (not literally) for about 30 minutes for the sun to peek out. And it came out and disappeared again in a matter of seconds!

Beauty! Dramatic light! The mood is amazing here. I really like the hint of colour and the dark clouds. Good work dodging and burning. Perfect timing too. A few seconds later and the sun would have been completely blocked.

Arreymbuo: it's digital - Canon D30.
Larry: Ano Nuevo...yes, north of Santa Cruz. A nice place to lower the blood pressure.
Terrence: it's not silly to be honest, thanks.

It seems almost silly to cast a wet blanket over such an obviously beautiful image, but to be honest the first thing that popped into my head when i saw this shot was how complete foreground/background DOF would have made it perfect (but then, thats taste) either way quite an eye catcher~

Beatiful image, the light and mood are too good to be true, ahhhhhhhh. Begs for a little more foreground space though for the waves to move into and the rocks to breathe. Sizing issue, 640 wide max, 480 high max (ie vertical shots that you'd love to have big are still 480 high at the largest, period, sad but true)

Ano Nuevo... north of Santa Cruz, right? I really like this composition with the extra-long foreground. That's one low tide!
