About Now that winter has got a firm grip on me, I plan to start a small series of pictures of the fantastic Aurora Borealis (northern light). I know that not many people have the opportunity to see this in real life, so I hope you'll be able to enjoy it here.
All comments will be appreciated. Thank you...

We get auroas here, but certainly not as oftren as you. Also, I sus[pect we have quite a bit more light pollution to deal with than you, depending on how close you are to a city, of course. This green ribbon is grand.

Incredible...even the moon's reflected light has been turned into a shade of green. The red glow to the (buildings? fire?) on the land also adds interest.

Regards,
Chris

Another awesome image of the lights. I did see this in Canada when I was there but never with colour such as this. I was hoping to see it again in Alaska but alas didn't stay as I'd hoped to so I missed the season. At least I have your images to enjoy now. Thanks. I love the foreground and the warm glow in the distance. Is this a house or perhaps your campfire?

Wonderful photos Gaute and thank you for bringing them to us.

Thanks also for your comment on my Monument Valley image. I'm quite technically challenged really but I am happy with my composition skills so that's half the battle conquered.

Cheers - Ann :)

I'm at ISO 320. Unfortunately I can't press the D70 to more than ISO 400 at the most if I don't want any kind of grain. Northern lights needs to be photographed at as low exposure time as possible since it's shifting and moving all the time, sometimes at very high speeds.

This night we alomst had full moon, and this usually makes the northern light weeker since the moon is much lighter, but this night they were equally strong. A brilliant experience..

It takes skill to have luck, and you made the best of the opportunity. I think that exposure here is the most difficult challenge, expecially given that most of us rarely get any chance to practice. I like how you included some foreground, and also the red glow in the distance. An intriguing composition. Is the white light a blown-out moon? What ISO speed were you shooting with?

It's all very real, Riccardo, even the stars. It's a beautiful show when the northern lights "explode" like this. It's constantly moving around and shifting, so it's basically all about beeing at the right spot at the right time. It's totally unpredictible, so this is a lucky shot.

I hope you'll have the opportunity to see this for yourself in the future.....

Beautiful. It doesn't seem even a picture. Are the stars real?
Waiting for your next pictures.
Ciao
