I love the zig-zag look to this shot - I think it's a great first try - better than other veteran shots I've seen.

Hi Todd,
You've got excellent depth and sharpness in this shot! Excellent timing and composition.

Great catch, Todd!! Must be much more difficult than it looks, at the kind of speed that they move. You froze the bkes real well. This kind of shot would be just amazing with a shallow DOF (focussed only on the the foreground racer) or a slower shutter speed with your camera following the biker (and motion blurring the rest), but that's much easier said than done. I find the guy in the top right corner to be a bit distracting.

Nice shot. I have a different take from the critique above... I would prefer to make this shot more abstract by removing the noise in the background (e.g. sky, trees, tires, etc). Then I'll emphasize on the 3 bikers, each at different distance (you have 4 and touching), and how they lean low and left and right.

David,
You know, you make a very good point. I can see how the shot would be better with a shallower DOF. This is the best reason I can think of for joining usefilm. Thanks for the advice!

Great first try Todd. You really dont need everything in focus in a shot. I would actually prefer the bikes at the back to be even softer as they distract the eye. When i shot sports for a living my favourite f aperture was f2.8
