About
Location: Maroon Lake, CO Date: 30 Sept 2005 Capture: Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II, TS-E 24 f3.5L, (1/6, 1/3, 1/8), f16, ISO 200
The three exposures were sandwiched in PS: 1) with polarizer maximized for foliage (middle ground) , 2) with polarizer minimized for water (foreground), 3) without polarizer for sky.
Thanks Morgan. It's easy to sandwich exposures when they're shot from a tripod. Sometimes getting a good selection to put them together is still hard, especially when there's a big difference between the two like with the sky in this image. Polarizers are generally very helpful to make a good-looking sky. The exception is when the sky is already a nice blue, then the polarizer can make it really dark and unnatural.
Great work with sandwiching the images, James. I always get them just enough off to screw things up. :( <-I'm sad when that happens. I'm really surprised the sky turned out as well as it did without the polarizer. I've always had better results with sky shots with a polarizer.
Excellent work, James, in turning out this great image! Lots of forethought for the shot and the end result. Beautiful colours throught, and I like the way you've exposed the running water. Dave.
