Hi Chris! I realise I've been checking out your images for quite some time but never added you to my watch lists. I tend to use the Associates list rather than Friends list, so feel it is high time I added you to it.
It's a wonderful image you have captured here - so many details: the intent listening, the crossed hands, the hand on the hat, the pointing finger, the swinging feet.

Sorry, Kev, I'm afraid I unintentionally misled. I thought the 'critique only' option was something you set once-and-for-all in your preferences, but it's not!
When you upload an image, you fill in lots of data, (title, about, colour/B&W, etc), and one of the options you're given each time is whether to allow ratings or not. If you unheck that box it will only given the option to leave a comment. Once you've done it once, it should remain as the default option until you change it again.
I hope this helps,
Chris

In some ways. Chris, the UK is a better place to grow old in than Japan. There is more "respect" for the aged here, but less understanding of what they need and can enjoy in the way of social services and leisure activities. My mother, who came to Japan twice, at age 70 and 78, the second as part of a round-the-world trip, said "old people don't go out much!" (This from a lady who thought nothing of spending a weekend in Paris at the age of 80!) Your two elderly ladies here are obviously having a fine time. Well captured!! Excellent B&W.

Superb image Chris and it appears to be so typical of rural life. We have a saying here in Haltwhistle that a story "starts as a feather at one end of the street and is a matress by the time it reaches the far end of the street" The picture is so sharp and well exposed and is helped by the overall toning which suits the subject to perfection.
