About
I encountered this specimen in a biology practical class...chemicals were applied to the rat foetus to make it go transparent, and then a dye that stains bone was added, so one can see where bone is growing out of cartilage (called endochondral ossification), in so-called "ossification centres".
Hope this picture doesn't disturb anyone. I've been desensitised to these kind of things so now I'm just fascinated (instead of grossed out and a bit horrorstricken). This is the result of sneaking the camera into the lab.
You are so creative! What a presentation. I don't feel particularly bad about a rat specimen...maybe it's just me! This is very eye catching Nadia. Well done.
Who would have thought that something you didn't exactly look forward to seeing end up being so fascinating. It is interesting to see how all the bones are forming, one could almost believe this is some kind of dinosaur. Great effect to use the practical instructions underneath the subject as it promotes more of a scientific atmosphere for any regular viewer. What affected me the most was that it was contained in such a small container, possibly showing how insignificant the rat was in this state.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to more results of sneaking the camera into the lab - keep up the excellent work!
