Hi Neil, glad you like it. At first I hesitated to convert to b&w given that the water and the sky were such a wonderful blue, but glad I did as it brings your attention to the detail in the rocks I think. NZ is so amazing!

What makes this scene to me is the small bird flying through-I'm almost afraid that the rock will close shut and have it for lunch. Nice comp. and contrast. Well done~

Luca LucaŽ   {K:2429} 10/17/2005
fantastic this rock , perfectly borcken in two half.
but the thing who make great this shot for me is the bird. without bird should be a normal pic.
it seem a big broken egg , the egg of the bird...

Hi Peta, many thanksforyour recent comment.I see i have missed many photos recently :). This one of yours is a cracker. Not only do i have a soft spot for NZ, but what i like is the treatment of the photo. B&W is excellent and the low angle with the bird as well SUPERB! It hides the true size of this rock and makes me think about it. Unusual to see a B&W photo of Kaiteriteri, which is otherwise famaous for it's golden sands :)
Nice work, Best wishes
Neil

Hi Mark, thank you! I must admit, you make me laugh!! I did consider celebrating my 10,000 shot on my 20D with a new addition to the series, but that opportunity passed now hahaha. I'm a bit over using myself (oh I almost said abusing!) but maybe inspiration will come again!

A knob of butter and some cheese on there would be perfect! The bird makes a great scene and subject something more special and ensures we can understand how large the split rock is. It really makes one wonder how the rock came to be split like that and how diverse is the geology all around us. Congrats on making front page. Ian

Great photo, Peta. The bird emphasizes the size of the rocks perfectly. Good details retain in the rocks, the water and the sky as well. Just a little sharper it could be imo. Regards, Martin
